Can you ring up to pay.....and ask if there is a charge to pay?
"Hello, I know I've been in the area, but I'm wondering if your cameras spotted me, or if I can get away with not paying..."
Have you ever even been to London, you-know-it all forum clown? Is there a thread that you haven't been a know-it-all little tt on? Feel free to post a link to one positive contribution to this forum.

Many, many times, thanks. I used to live just off the M25, for my sins.

I am surprised that they won't tell you if you owe a charge on a company car, but don't doubt the OP's report
I am an accountant. If you think you owe tax, you call HMRC and (they check your identity first and) they tell you if you do.
Seems reasonable to me - it's our country and our government. Time we complained to the London Mayor.

They must have this information, but have decided to keep this bonus revenue stream.
That's the only reason I can think of - the data is definitely there but the operators have deliberately not been given a way of checking. The live data of all vehicles must be being captured and stored live, for police purposes if nothing else (eg. it will surely flag a stolen vehicle immediately).

I would say its quite possible to miss the signs. In a famous ovservation test at Harvard University people were asked to watch a video of people passing basket ball to each other and to count the passes. During the video somone dressed as a gorilla walks into shot and thumps its chest and walks off. Half the observers did not recall the gorilla.

If you are not lexpecting to see a C painted on the road, then its entirely possible not to see it.
I saw this video last week and was stunned when asked if I'd seen the gorilla!

Take it out of his wages.
Section 13 of the Employment Rights Act 1996 prohibits deductions from wages unless provided for under statute or the worker's contract. So unless there is a clause in the employee's T&Cs permitting the employer to do so he can't do as you suggest. Without such a clause he would need the employee's agreement or consent in writing.

That's load a load of horse s:censorede. Whoever came up with that as the reason is deluded. Protection under the DPA deals with data about people not inanimate objects. How could the caller identify a specific individual from a mere VRM without access to the DVLA database? Even if he/she did have it, the only information available would be that of the RK who is not necessarily the driver.

 * If that logic held water I could clock your VRM out on the road and find out your identity.

If the purpose of the call is to find out if somebody has been in the CCZ, the caller would have to already know their identity so there would be no breach of the DPA by TFL. The DPA is not concerned with where anybody is at a particular date and time.

Indeed. TFL could safely provide the VRM information if it was minded to. The fact If it won't tells you all you need to know about its motive.

It never ceases to amaze me the number of people who use the DPA mantra as an excuse not to provide answers to legitimate questions. Most of them don't have a clue about the purpose of the Act. Even those that do, are often confused about what it actually says.

By the time you spend all that time investigating it will be cheaper just to pay up, there are various small roads around me in Kennington where you would possibly miss the C Charge signs, particularly if you a yokel lorst in London, itseasily done.

One of the car hire companies tried to set up an account so that if any of their cars entered the zone the payment could be taken automatically.......couldn't be done; as you can imagine many overseas tourists in rental cars wouldn't have a clue what to do or how to pay. You can set up your sat nav to warn you if you are entering congestion zone
