Has she got the car back?
... and if so, is she now paying for 2 insurance policies? Is someone else getting free insurance?

My insurance company had taken my private registration wrong when putting it on my car.
I told them xx FCH. They insured it as xx SCH. A few days later I got pulled by a cop sayin I didn't have insurance on my car
I said I did have insurance however as it was 00:30 the officer couldn't call up the insurance company.
Gave me a 7 day producer.
Following day called insurance company, they said they were sorry, changed my registration and I printed off the documents and took them to a station.

I guess discretion was used and maybe the fact i've been driving 9 years that he gave me a bit of faith.

When you are getting insurance for a vehicle. Online or over the phone, they ask for the vehicle registration - then once they have that, they confirm to you the exact vehicle make, model, colour etc...

How was an error not identified at that point. Either the insurance company would have said, that Reg is incorrect, or told her the details of another vehicle that wasn't the one she bought (at which point she would have identified it as the wrong vehicle)!

Something doesn't sound right here.
Entirely possible. I bought a camper van for Glastonbury reg R707AKJ, the paperwork from the insurance company came through with R707AKL on it but the correct vehicle details not the astra that's wearing that plate. No idea how they managed it but that's what happened. As a side note R717AKJ is the exact same model as my camper so a clerical error there might go unnoticed.
