This afternoon I celebrated escaping the 20mph crawl around Loch Lomond by unleashing the 1.5dci.
A85 with a 60mph limit; straight road, no traffic, no junctions, dry with great visibility...Only I didn't spot the jam sandwich behind the hedge.
In declining to give me a ticket on the spot, the policeman mentioned the words 'Procurator Fiscal'. He also raised the possibility of being charged with careless, or even dangerous driving.
Any thoughts or experiences of similar, anyone?
Thanks.

Scotland = funny business where careless or dangerous driving can be proved purely because of the speed involved, not the actual risk.

Also grumpy judges.

Mind you I thought the entry into dangerous was above this level.

Good luck

I got chased down by the plod on the A85 back in May. They were also hiding behind a tree just before a straight.
Apparently I was doing 86mph
I got the letter from the Procurator Fiscal and a court date etc. Apparently they don't do fixed penalty over a certain speed and in Scotland they don't do speed awareness courses.
The officers were really nice to be honest and made a point of recording the weather was good, no rain and no other traffic (possibly why I was out so early). Apparently the court will always consider dangerous driving.

My court date came (pleaded guilty by post) but they have now reallocated it to Oban due to jurisdiction issues.
I have to wait for another citation.
Hopefully they loose the paper work in transit to Oban from Dunoon grumpy

Read the Oban times for news of all the Argyll speeders, it's in the police/court files every week.

There's usually a fair few doing over the ton, so hopefully they'll not be that excited about 84.

Police will issue a Section 1 warning. In simple terms, we think it is speeding but the PF might change the charge. Reality, he won't. On that road COFP to 25 over limit, you were faster so it goes to court. Early plea and probably £200 - £300, and 4, maybe 5 points.

Similar thing on the A9 a few years ago. 72 mph on a temporary 50mph zone (roadworks). The policeman who pulled me was an arrogant so and so, I got stopped for random checks twice more in the next 50 miles.

Finally went to court on a dangerous driving charge around 9 months later in Inverness, I pleaded not guilty, argued the roadworks weren't active at the time, I wasn't doing that speed etc etc. Ended up receiving 6 points and a 150 pound fine.

Godawful wifi here in Benderloch so I've not been on to check this. Thank you to all respondents.
This hasn't come close to spoiling my holiday what with all the fab walking, fishing and swimming.

If it's the same as England they've got 6 months to lay the info before the court so in reality just over 6 months....

Mine (although UK) took 5 months to come...

I'm sure it might take them a while as some courts are full of people doing 70 mph on 50 limit dual carriageways.

solicitor told me it's more typical to wait about 3 months in these parts (Argyll for me) - so still a little early.
