Stopped by an unmarked car 20 days ago.
Caught doing 90 on the motorway.

Have been giving the slip stating what speed I was doing, officers name, time and date.

The NIP hasn't arrived on my doorstep yet. The officer mentioned if I don't receive it in a certain timeframe I need to call up and see where it is?

The date of offence on the slip he gave me in the back of the police car he has put my date of birth instead. I guess that is a minor thing and can be corrected by the officer when he gets back to his base?

Should get a FPN offer for that... and not your job to chase them for it.

Postal NIP not necessary where verbal notice given at time/stop.

I was under the impression that if everything is done at the roadside then the 28 days is irrelevant as that bit has already been done. I think the timeframe you work to now is 6 months for them to get in touch although I may be wrong.

So I have to chase it up if I don't receive it?

Especially as there isn't a NIP to chase. What is the title of the form the Police Officer gave you?

Well I meant you don't go chasing any of it. If you hear nothing....let sleeping dogs lie.

I suspect that the sleeping dog is actually stirring but slowly. The OP was issued with a verbal NIP at the time of the offence and the alleged speed a Speed Awareness Course is not an option. The only options are a FPN or a summons and I suspect the Central Ticket Office is in the process of making that decision.

I believe that once the identity of the driver is established, as it was with the OP, and the verbal NIP given then a Fixed Penalty Notice or Summons must be issued within 6 months of the offence.

I thought 90 on a motorway was just a FPN, seems a bit odd that this didn't happen. I stand to be corrected by those that know better?

90 on the motorway should be three points and the fine. You never know these days I'm sure they make up the rules as they go along.

I would wait it isn't your job to chase a fine.

In Dorset it appears that the Officer just reports the offence to the Central Ticket Office and they decide on the disposal.

About 15 years ago I was waiting to hear something and was counting down the 6 month timescale, literally about 3 days before it was up, a brown envelope dropped through the door frown

Mine never did arrive, no idea why but very lucky.

The 6 month wait was horrible tho and definitely slowed me down.

Now, you would think that all the various regional forces would be joined up here, wouldn't you? But (speaking from personal experience) Dorset is not!

I got a Speed Awareness Course option from Dorset, despite having 3 points on the license within the last 2 years....

Clocked at 83mph in a 70 zone (Puddletown Dual Carriageway....)
