Before this thread turns into an abundance of post telling me I am a prat I'm going to admit that right now to save you all having to waste your time and effort confirming what I already know.

Right lets get down to what happened.

Friday afternoon driving down the a46 between Lincoln towards Newark I was merrily enjoying my drive home. Followed a Lorry in the left hand lane when a Mitsubishi Saracen 4x4 pickup type thing past us both. We got too the swinderby island and once we got round the island I pulled in behind the 4x4 to pass the Lorry.

Now Mr 4x 4 driver proceeds to stay in the outside lane, I move back to the left. Unusually for this road at this time it's rather quite ahead but mr 4x4 proceeds for the next 2 or 3 miles to dawdle along at maybe 60 in the outside lane in his own little world.

I'm not a speed up and start flashing lights type of guy or ride an inch from the bumper and intimidate a person but after a minute or so of sitting in the left hand lane and him sat there in the outside lane when it's clearly free for him to move back in I just lost my rag with him, I indicated into the outside lane and sat behind him (again not intimidating him) but did the thing of moving my car about in the lane hoping he will open his eyes and see me in his side mirrors. Still nothing, cars are now cueing up behind us. So I flash my lights at him hoping to get his attention. Still nothing, 10 seconds later and some more moving about in my lane I can see his head moving, looking at me in his mirror now and he is just blatantly not going to move over and let people past.

Here's where I went into tt mode. I don't condone it either. I just plane undertook him. I was so pissed off that he was clearly doing this just to be a wker,

Anyway as I get in front I move infront of him and signal to the inside lane as a suggestion to stop sitting in the outside lane when it's clear on the inside. He then proceeds to accelerate to the back of my car so close that I can't see the number plate. Ie close. At this point I thought I've had enough of this I am off, where mr 4x4 then glues himself a foot from my bumper all the way to 90 mph.

To top it off as we reach the next island he pulls up next to me and points at the dash cam.

In hindsight it's almost like he was trying to goad me into it knowing he had a dashcam. I'm not too worried about him going to plod as he would incriminate himself for speeding, but if he did what's the chances of getting a prosecution out of this. I believe some police forces are now using dash cam footage as evidence. I expect to find myself on YouTube or Facebook soon.

Anyway sorry for the long post. I admit I drove like a tit and admit it was wrong. Honestly I'm not normally an aggressive driver but middle/outside lane hoggers are my pet hate. Why hold everybody up like a dick. It's not hard to use an indicator and move over. Especially when it's clear for quite a while ahead.

This has spurred me on to refit my dashcam.

Let the flaming begin.

Please do not worry yourself about this. I very much doubt if an overstretched and disinterested police service will have any appetite whatsoever.

It is also unlikely that your lane hogging friend will actually bother to submit the footage. The worst that could happen is it might end up on YouTube.

I agree in principal but it would be very easy to edit his part in the incident out. Then hand it to the police.

It's one of the reasons why I am always suspicious of some of the videos posted online. Often they don't show what's gone on before or after.

Leave it a week, search for your reg number on Youtube, have a laugh at the footage, move on.

Sounds like an excellent plan.

So he'd edit it down to a few seconds of you passing on the nearside ?

Seriously, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thinking about it that way you absolutely correct, no police is going to take that as the truth without more footage.

Just forget about it - he'll get home and forget all about it.

These dash cam warriors really piss me off; patrolling the road like the fourth emergency service almost waiting for a slip of controversy to record on their little device.

TBH I thought with the way you were building it up that you had done something far worse.

80% of the videos they post are utter BS anyway and could be avoided if they planned ahead properly

Next time just calmly pass on the left if the person in the outside lane is doing less than the speed limit. It is not illegal to do that after all. Plonker in outside lane is not keeping left and therefore opening themselves up for a fine.

I would have stopped behind him. Both driving at 90mph and in a road rage situation.

I'ts jus t not worth it.I have been there wore he tea shirt and thought I was the big man.

Pointing at the dashcam is stupid in his situation and he knows it.

This.

Return correctly to the inside lane after completing your overtake of the truck and continue at your legal pace. I always pause just in case they are going to pull back in but I don't wait for long nowadays.

I'm not too sure the Police will be interested in the footage if it's edited. I heard this when the Police wanted to look at my CCTV regarding an incident near my home. They wanted to see what was there and take a copy themselves if it was of any use.

Unless he's a complete tool he'll have to edit the footage before sending to the police or posting online (to hide his lane hogging/speeding/tailgating). Police won't be interested in 5 seconds of footage. I'm sure his YouTube viewers will have fallen asleep by the time your piece comes on after watching 20 minutes of non-events smile

Yup, first rule of dashcam is that you can't act like a tt yourself if you want to do anything with the footage.

He'll be editing the video and posting it on YouTube.

His involvement in the incident will be cut off leaving you as the only bad one..
