I don't use bluetooth so have no idea - but people using bluetooth presumably you still have to touch the screen to dial contacts so isn't that an offence? I presume not all phones have siri type thing where you can use instructions to dial.
Infotainment systems in newer cars now upload the list of recent calls and the phone book from your phone when you connect.
When I say newer, our 56 reg car does this.
you can then scroll through using either the buttons on the dash, or the steering wheel controls.

If the phone's in a secure holder/cradle etc touching the screen or using the phone isn't breaking the specific mobile phone law.

Hi guys,I think I already know the answer to this question but just wanted to clarify it. I was pulled over the other day by the boys in blue,I know everyone says this but I really wasn't on my phone,I was looking at the time on it,the officer even agree I wasn't. He kindly put me up for an awareness course, but I have already done one in the last 6 months so will probably end up getting points. My question is,is it worth putting up a fight? (Not literally) LOL
Contact Emma Patterson at Patterson Law. Most of the advice here is rubbish/ignorant. Holding a phone is not an offence, according to the specialist legal advice that I have received.

Probably not. The offence is "using" not "definitely making or receiving a call on". Anything which involves holding the phone can be classed as using.

Not really.

Don't be such an arse. Google the company website, read the advice in the FAQ then STFU.

Is that what they hand out now? Or just your opinion??
Clearly whatever is in place now is not enough of a deterrent.
Phone in hand = instant one week ban from driving and 3 points, would that work?
It might be more of a deterrent, but only if there is felt to be a greater risk of being caught and receiving that punishment.

I appreciate that the general feeling here is that there should be more of a clampdown on mobile phone use by drivers, but quite frankly I don't think it would be justified - not with the irrational state of the current law.

Why, are you doing their SEO?

That takes me to a blog with over 50 posts.
I could work my way through them but as this is a forum with a question asking for advice perhaps you'd like to link to the exact bit in question to be helpful, rather than being condescending and aggressive?

How come the vehicle does not have a clock display on the dash ?
I suppose most do, but some may not - as has been pointed out by other posters.
I'm fairly confident Porsche's and Bentley's do.

A little, but quite deserved. Their reply is equally lame.

As the OP on this I have to say that I'm not that surprised at all the negative replies on this, but I was only asking for a bit of advice, why do all the self righteous dick heads have to pile in with their clever comments,so no one has ever done anything wrong in a car! Why do people assume I'm lying when I say I was checking the time,to clarify I was in a 2015 Porsche and yes it does have a clock, yes it has Bluetooth! I was looking at my phone for the time to see how my watch was keeping time! It's no big deal really is it girls, but oh no some of you have to sit in your mum and dads spare room with your graphic novels spouting crap! This site used to be good but I'm afraid that as soon as anyone puts something on here that they don't like/agree with they start.

Steady on, the forum isn't changing, you just don't like what you're hearing.

But I don't think you are telling the truth, and I think it's typical of folk that use their phones when driving/sitting to not see it as an issue when it really, really is.

People usually post when moved to do so.
It seems you think it is OK to be driving a 2015 Porsche while synchronising the time between you phone and your watch. You are right there are some dick-heads posting...driving too it would seem.

I wasn't trying to be argumentative I was asking if that was what is right,if you look at BOF does he would probably know better than most on here, that's why I asked the question in the first place.

Listen chap, if I act like a weapons grade prat I don't come on PH and shout about it, because, guess what, I'd be told I'm a weapons grade prat !

You've been stupid enough to ask a really stupid question and you've been called out for it. What you did was stupid - I and others don't believe your story and your latest statement about your watch sounds even less believable.

Suck it up, learn from it, use Bluetooth and a phone holder, or like many people, put your phone away when driving and focus on the important job you're supposed to be doing.

I think it's you who need to calm down a bit.
You were trying to get advice on something and (most) posters have replied saying you've been caught bang to rights - on the basis you were caught "using a handheld defice", rather than "being on the phone"
I'm not going to argue which is right or wrong, but presumably you were seen with a mobile phone in your hand. If you weren't using it, why did you have it in your hand?

And in your post above, while driving you picked up a phone to check the time with your wrist watch and the car has a clock. In terms of not being distracted, or eyes on the road for the maximum time possible, why did you need to do it at that time [no pun intended]. Couldn't you have waited? Couldn't you check your watch with your car's clock? Is your wrist watch likely to be so wrong as to make you very late, is that the impact? In that case a check with the car clock would suffice.

Although another poster has suggested (quite rudely) everyone on PH call a specific lawyer to ask her, the consensus seems to be DON'T HAVE A PHONE IN YOUR HAND WHILE DRIVING. As someone who's been caught once for this and punished you'd think you'd have more insight than most. Apparently not.
You'd rather ask the question, read the replies, then come back with silly comments ("no big deal is it girls") when you don't get the reply you wanted.

I tell you what, get rid of the phone and put the money you save each month towards a decent watch that keeps time. Job done.
