It is absolutely comforting to know that there cannot be any crime of any description within Kirkintilloch, Glasgow that our Police can waste resources by putting their money making vans on the Waterside Rd 3 times within one week!!! Normally these vans are once in a blue moon, but clearly our lovely police force are either needing to save up for one heck of a Christmas party this year, or need a new panda car!!!! Well seeing where their priorities lie!!
Can't do anything about anything being stolen, but can fleece money from motorisits!!

Lucky you, when it's 'week three' in their rota they're likely to turn up at locations near me a couple of times every day.

It's easier to blame others than take responsibility for your own actions (assuming you're ranting because you may have been caught).

always smart A's on this site!! No I'm not concerned I got caught!! what I'm trying to say is, living in this town there are far more serious problems the police could be dealing with other than fleecing motorists!!!!!!!!!

1) The people in the vans probably aren't qualified to investigate the crimes you are talking about.
2) If people keep feeding the vans the income willl probably provide money to pay for more of those to investigate the types of crimes you are talking about.

3) It costs the police money to put the vans there and operate them. The fines are not collected by the police. So why would they be fleecing motorists?

There was I thinking you were talking about policemen eating more than two doughnuts on a shift.

So you think its OK for me to drive at 100mph, crash into someone and kill them. However, if I was to stab someone and kill them, that wouldn't be OK?

Simple answer is, don't speed and you don't have to worry about getting caught. Just think, if no one sped, there wouldn't be any need for them would there?

Because the state pay the Police, the cameras operate at a profit enforcing the state view you shouldn't be speeding & it's the same state that receives the fines who pay for the Police budget. It's very cost effective & is enforcing the state view you shouldn't be speeding at the same time.

If no one sped they'd lower the speed limit.

There is truth in what ki3r and the OP are saying, no one speeding would indeed lead to no one needing to catch them. But surely anyone can see that the motorist is an easy target. I don't know anyone who can honestly say they NEVER speed though, law of averages, you sit in a van long/often enough, you ARE going to rake up a nice whack of revenue.
I'm not condoning speeding, but it's too true that they are sneaky in there "fleecing of motorists" (From Mr. Clean licence before the attacks start)

On the flip side if a traffic cop say a "crime" I would expect them to do something about that though, but would I expect an officer at a murder scene (Or on his way back from it at least) stop a speeding motorist and issue a FPN? Probably not so it's not like the resources are being wasted by having the traffic police out there doing there job, as people who hit and kill someone yes should be stopped and punished and one way to help prevent that is to control speeding in the first place. But I do get why people find revenue generating from "innocent (in their opinion) speeders"

Would they? If they did that would prove it money before safety.

If we lived in a fantasy world where, common sense prevailed and no body felt a need for speed, and speeds on roads were advisory rather than enforced, and driving too fast for certain surrounding conditions was punishable not by doing 36 in a 30 kind of way but a "collision/damage/injury/death caused by driving excessively above the recommended speed" kind of way (I know this can never happen, or is at least very unlikely) but most good folk would probably drive at speeds very similar to what the limits are now, with the exception IMOA of motorways where people would probable feel safe at higher speeds (70 does feel slow in modern cars with better brakes, stopping distances have halved since the Highway Code was written) 80 mph is pretty safe today in reality.

No one is being 'fleeced' are they though, its no secret that if you speed you run the risk of getting caught is it?

As has already been pointed out the camera van operators would not be investigating any other matters anyway so dont worry, no murders are going unsolved.

Did it also occur to you that the local residents have asked for the enforcement? Maybe they're fed up and have asked for something to be done?

I really dont know why you're throwing your teddy out your pram when you claim not to have been caught, I'd hate to see you when something really bad happens.

You do realize that no money from speeding fines go to the local police force or the council don't you? They simply just claim back their operating costs. So no this money doesn't go towards the xmas party or a new car.

Stats show Greater London has the safest drivers in the country, we now have a huge amount of camera enforced 20mph zones springing uo everywhere.

Go figure.

Not for a long time they haven't.
