Stats show Greater London has the safest drivers in the country, we now have a huge amount of camera enforced 20mph zones springing uo everywhere.
Go figure.
I've recently driven along the M25 when there were speed restrictions due to weight of traffic and, on the return in lighter traffic, a broken down vehicle in the inside lane. Both time the traffic flowed smoothing, although at a speed lower than the national speed limit.Go figure.
There was no sudden braking, no cars swerving into other lanes when surprised by stationary traffic. In fact, most, although not all, vehicles were within 10mph of the posted limit due to the fact that it was difficult to exceed it.
My wife, a non driver, noticed as well. I've become a supporter of reduced limits on motorways enforced by speed cameras.
I would put the lack of accidents down to better enforcement of all limits.

You do realize that no money from speeding fines go to the local police force or the council don't you? They simply just claim back their operating costs. So no this money doesn't go towards the xmas party or a new car.
The cost of the Speed Awareness course however...You're both wrong.

but clearly our lovely police force are either needing to save up for one heck of a Christmas party this year, or need a new panda car!!!! Well seeing where their priorities lie!!

always smart A's on this site!! No I'm not concerned I got caught!! what I'm trying to say is, living in this town there are far more serious problems the police could be dealing with other than fleecing motorists!!!!!!!!!

3) It costs the police money to put the vans there and operate them. The fines are not collected by the police. So why would they be fleecing motorists?

Although we operate within Police Scotland, funding for Safety Cameras Scotland comes from the Scottish Government, through the Scottish Safety Camera Programme. This grant enables us to deliver safety camera operations without cost to any other organisation. The purpose of safety cameras is to make our roads safer and deter speeding or red-light running - there is no link between the number of offenders paying fines and the funding of safety cameras. All fines resulting from offences detected by safety cameras are paid to the Scottish Court Service and returned to HM Treasury.

No SACs in Scotland. I have two sons both Police Officers in Police Scotland, the Inverness based one tells me that the within the Road Policing Unit every car is expected to hand out fines totalling £600 every shift. Once theyve reached this target they can go and dissapear to a dark corner for a snooze for the rest of the shift.

You could do that on foot in 30mins.MarshPhantom said:

Just think, if no one sped, there wouldn't be any need for them would there?
If no one sped they'd lower the speed limit. If we lived in a fantasy world where, common sense prevailed and no body felt a need for speed, and speeds on roads were advisory rather than enforced, and driving too fast for certain surrounding conditions was punishable not by doing 36 in a 30 kind of way but a "collision/damage/injury/death caused by driving excessively above the recommended speed" kind of way (I know this can never happen, or is at least very unlikely) but most good folk would probably drive at speeds very similar to what the limits are now, with the exception IMOA of motorways where people would probable feel safe at higher speeds (70 does feel slow in modern cars with better brakes, stopping distances have halved since the Highway Code was written) 80 mph is pretty safe today in reality.
Go figure.

It is absolutely comforting to know that there cannot be any crime of any description within Kirkintilloch, Glasgow that our Police can waste resources by putting their money making vans on the Waterside Rd 3 times within one week!!! Normally these vans are once in a blue moon, but clearly our lovely police force are either needing to save up for one heck of a Christmas party this year, or need a new panda car!!!! Well seeing where their priorities lie!!
Can't do anything about anything being stolen, but can fleece money from motorisits!!

It's a nice story but it's not true. Cat

So you're saying that this poster who, unlike you, is not anonymous on here, is a liar; or his sons, both of whom are police officers, are liars? Who would have believed it, eh? Police officers lying!
J
Jith I am disappointed with you, it is plain to anyone with basic comprehension skills that at no point have I suggested that imagineifyeswill, or his son, is lying. I simply stated that the claim each road policing car is expected to hand out £600 in fines every shift is incorrect (there are no such targets).J
I am sure you are not so unintelligent that you actually misunderstood what I wrote so I have to conclude you have deliberately chosen to misinterpret it to try and score a cheap point.
This is both disappointing but also surprising given you have previously posted this in reply to me

I said it before but as of now, you don't exist as far as I'm concerned. If you respond to any of my posts from now on I'll report it to the mods.
On a positive note I am glad you once more accept I exist. I will sleep more soundly as a result. Cat
