As it says in the title really, I live just up the road from a 7.5t weight restriction which restricts the weight of traffic up our road. At certain times of the year we are inundated with loaded and unloaded tractors going past the house. I understand the need to breach the limit if access to the prohibited zone is required, however these tractors are just doing it to save a mile or too.

I have phoned local plod and have been waiting for a call back for a couple of weeks now.

Or just let the farmers crack on so they can produce the food etc, having tractors go up your road is called living in the country.

Also, can you be 100% sure they are exceeding the 7.5 ton weight limit? Google 'tractor weights' and you may be surprised...

Any vehicle is exempt from weight limited roads so long as they have a valid reason for using it. Deliveries, Emergancy services, accessing a field etc...

Unless it is for structural reasons. Like a weak bridge.

Yep got to be over 7.5 tonnes they are using a fleet of JCB Fastracs which are 5.5 tonnes without a trailer.

Sounds like it is just one farm business, if they are all Fastracs? In which case I would be a bit wary of starting a vendetta. Up to you though.

It amazes me just how many Tractor drivers are on the phone driving one handed.

(Seriously. not trolling)
The driver will also be wearing a college polo shirt with the collar turned up, rigger boots and expensive shades.

To answer the OP, it might be the case that the tractor are coming from or going to somewhere within the weight limit, or they are just being a cock.

An awful lot are pulling MOT failure ex-artic lorry flatbeds and driven badly/aggressively. It's currently fashionable to pull 360 excavators about with tractors, on cherry, no LGV, no CPC, no tacho and often crashing. These tts will make it worse for the whole industry. We have a 25mph speed limit and a 27.5 tonne weight limit that has recently been increased. The weight limit is a bit borderline, but 25mph is fast enough. Yet there are idiots taking straw into power stations at over 40 tonnes. This isn't an issue for the machinery, assuming it is properly loaded and braked, but is terrible for agricultures PR.

When I drive mine I am very aware how visible and distinctive it is and drive it accordingly. It is spotlessly clean and serviced on time every time by the main dealer.

Mine weighed about 7.5 tonnes this morning. Then I put the fertiliser spreader on it and put 2400kg in that. Then put 600kg of ballast on the front. Our big tractors weighs 14 tonnes on it's own.

That'll be the tight fisted farmer on the phone making sure they haven't stopped for a piss or pulled in to let the two miles of traffic pass which has built up behind him.
