Well to cut a long story short I hired a vehicle in which I stopped on a Red route in Knightsbridge. Yes, I now realise that it does not matter how late it is in the evening or whether the road is empty or not you cannot stop on a Red Route. I paid the £65 fine when it was received by me but recently found out it was paid late due to the fact that the hire company got the notification first (hence the delay).

I did get what I thought were reminders but as I now spend most of my time abroad I wrongly assumed they were reminders for the same fine. To clarify 'early payment' is £65 and late payment is also £65. My wife sorted out payment on my card so assumed they had not tied up the fine with the payment. I thought TFL were 'still asking' for the money due to non consolidation.

Now I have a debt collection agency after £400 so emailed TFL Red Routes a month ago without any reply. Today I speak to TFL who say it is not in their hands but Tasks and then to Task enforcement who say I would need to appeal to TFL. ???????

Anyone know where I stand? Pay the fine and take Task Enforcement to court or go to TFL??

Ridiculous really as if they looked at the owner of the vehicle they would see it was not mine but belonged to a hire company and perhaps stupidly put two and two together.

Pointers welcome (as well as Trolls no doubt rolleyes )

How are you getting reminders if the vehicle is registered to the Hire Company?

Surely the hire company just charge you for the fine and they deal with it...?

IF it were me I'd go back to the hire company and get them to sort it all out, it's their car not yours. Obviously don't ignore any letters, just respond honestly and tell them you paid the fine and any further correspondence/debt needs to be chased by the owner of the vehicle.

I wish it was that easy and perhaps it is but they make the hirer responsible for any fines rightly so but pass on my details to TFL. Hence the delay. The vehicle was returned and they (Hertz) presumably had to look me up on their system and pass that onto TFL and then TFL to me or perhaps back through Hertz to me. Anyway apparently late.

I will certinly look at this option anyway.
