Should I have reported this? If so, 101 or 999?

Driving on the M62 near Leeds today I saw a lot of drivers on their phones, talking and texting, nothing unusual.

But I overtook a Ford Fusion where the female driver had a small dog sat on her lap, the dog had it's front paws on the steering wheel and I couldn't see the woman's hands (I was in a van so looking down a bit), she was turning towards the passenger chatting away I imagine.

She was in the inside lane doing about 50mph.

After passing her I thought just how dangerous it was, which got me thinking if I should have reported it.

What are your thoughts and if you think I should have reported it which number?

Personally I didn't think 999 was appropriate as it wasn't really an emergency.

I saw a programme the other week where a dog flew a plane, so a Ford Fusion on the motorway should be piss easy.

Dogs have been to space, too.

They certainly seem to know what they're doing. I wouldn't have a clue where to start with piloting a plane or a spacecraft.

Airplanes of the future will only have Pilot and a dog in the cockpit. The dog's there to bite the Pilot if he touches any of the controls - The Pilot is there to feed the dog smile

If somebody driving down the motorway is worth reporting, then something needs to be done now, not tomorrow. So...

So are you saying it was worth calling 999 at the time?

I didn't have the reg number and considered it dangerous to try and let the dog drive in lane 2 to overtake me!

I wasn't there, I didn't see it. If it was worth phoning about, it needed attention _now_, though.

So you've reported a car to 101 without the plate?

No.

Please tell me what exactly you are getting at?

ETA Just seen your edit. I described the scene as I saw it - are you saying it was an emergency and I should have called 999?

I am not sure Laika was that great an astronaut, she didn't ever come back, a retriever would have been a better choice.

A few years ago I had a few days work in that there London...

On my way home, struggling to get through the traffic, there was a youngish "lady", smoking, on the phone, with a dog in her lap, driving a Vauxhall Astra Convertible...

FFS, who drives an Astra Convertible...! wink

I just kept well out of her way.

There's more humour in this thread than in the joke thread in the Lounge!

Just for 2CV - I'll contact the police in the morning to ask for advice and let you know what they say.

I'd leave it personally. The dog probably has better driving skills and concentration than the girl.

It's ok, she was feeling "ruff" this morning which is why the dog drove.
