So my other half was driving my car when the traffic lights turned red, the car in front of her stopped, she stopped the numpty behind went into the back of her.
They both get out and check the damage, looked like there was none, she then took the drivers details (name, address & phone number) I don't think he bothered.
When she got home and told me I checked the car over and there was a split in the bumper it is a 2015 Touareg R line.

So I phone the guy the next day and it goes to answerphone! I left a message and text him asking for him to contact me to discuss and if I had not had a reply in three days I would contact my Insurance, well no contact was made so I duly informed my insurance.

A week later I get a ranting phone call saying someone has been leaving abusive messages and text's (I sent one of each) after a few minutes conversation with him I said sorry I'm not going to get into an argument and will leave it with my insurers.

Long storey short (maybe) I receive a letter from my insurers asking for me to check the address I had given them, because low and behold they cannot get hold of him!

It seems like he gave a false address but the correct phone number.furiousfurious

Surely if you have the reg number they can pursue the claim? If that and the phone number tie up then theres no issue?

Yeah I've had this, same thing. Just gave the insurance company the reg plat, photo of car with reg plate and photo of the driver. Left them to it.

do you think sending abusive messages has helped the situation in any way?

Is it definitely him? If so, it can't be THAT hard for your ins. co. to find an address, surely?

Maybe re-read the OP...

You're assuming he did. Just because the OIK who gave the false address accuses him of doing so, it does not mean that was actually the case.

Why oh why do PH contributors think it's OK to lay into the OP - even when it is clearly unjustified?

I did

and again read this bit where he admits to sending an abusive text and voice message

OP said one text and one phone call, neither of which will have been abusive.

It's the nugget who gave false details is the one who is over-reacting.

OP, your insurance company will be able to track his correct details down.

Who is the keyboard warrior here?
I made a comment based on the OPs own words, which may or may not have been quite what he meant to say, and if not what he meant to say should be clarified.

You are the one who has gone into a rant making sweeping generalisations, maybe you should follow your own advice.

No you chose to apply a meaning to the OP's words which was very obviously not intended. It is obvious what OP meant. Laying into the OP based on a poor choice of words is pretty poor (but typical) behaviour.

A good idea if you have an accident is to either get the third party to give you a missed call or ring the number they give you whilst at the road side.

I have front and rear facing cameras, so it has all been recorded.

I have done a couple of checks over the weekend, askmid and dvla sites, at the time of him rear ending my other half the van had an MOT was insured but had NO Tax and still has no Tax.

I have already had the go ahead to get my car repaired but I want to make sure that I will recover my excess before I do.

I have left them a message and sent another text as before (not abusive as the troll would like to think and imply laugh) as the phone went straight to answer phone.

I was thinking of a trip to Southampton Police Station to see if they would be interested in the footage of a un-taxed vehicle being used and false address being given following a accident?

To be fair, the 'troll' is correct, you did admit to the abusive messages:

"A week later I get a ranting phone call saying someone has been leaving abusive messages and text's (I sent one of each)"

Maybe that's not what you meant but it's what you said.

Define abusive. If accusing an innocent person of rear ending your wifes car and avoiding contact can be construed as offensive then maybe so. But otherwise one would assume the guy picking up the messages is overreacting and attempting to divert the blame. Either way unless the OP posted the ranting messages on here and got a 9/10, then I'd say its how some negatively interpret the OPs writing.

With regard to the "abusive" messages, your post is certainly capable of being interpreted that way.

With regard to the trip to the police station, why not do that?

Police don't deal with no tax DVLA do.

Why do you think the address is false? Just because he doesn't reply to you or your insurer doesn't mean it's false, unless there is some other information you've not told us about that confirms the address as false.

He clearly doesn't wish to deal with you judging from the phone contact. Leave it to your insurer to sort it with his insurer, that's what you paid the premium for.

If he has no tax does that mean his insurance is also invalid?
