What concerns me is how these nutter types so easily get hold of the landlords phone number to make complaints to.

I've never been in a house where the neighbours know the landlord. In fact most landlords wouldnt tell a neighbour his details anyway.

Depends how it starts though. We rented out our UK house when we lived in Germany for a few years. All the neighbours knew us of course before we went, and some were good friends. A few kept an eye out for us to make sure the tenants weren't trashing the place.
In four years, the only complaint I got about the tenants was about the amount of tacky lights and Christmas decorations they'd pinned to the outside walls/garden. This was of course in jest, but it was nice to know folk were looking out for us as landlords.

You should be able to get hold of the people who own the house.

We have had rented property next to us for about twenty years.Garden is in a bit of a mess people don't seem to take the care like the majority of home owners do.

Next time, let him have his rant, then look at him and say ' I hope you die soon'. There is no comeback from that. Harry Enfield had it off to a tea!
