even a won't somebody think of the children! Enjoy your clichéd strawman.
I disagree.

I'm a spirited driver, but my attitude to risk and perceptions has shifted since becoming a parent.

That said, i've always been careful around 30 and 40 zones as I remember what I was like when I was a kid - a bit irresponsible around traffic and "indestructible".

Sounds more like you agree with the cliché than disagree that there was one.

I think it is a well considered phrase, that has been hijacked and then over-used to the extent that it has lost it's real meaning.

...I don't know of the OP has children, but one of the things that really gave me an appreciation of the importance of not speeding in built up areas is when my kids started crossing the road with me. Speeding cars make this so much more difficult and hazardous.
But...but...but...errr....scameras, ummm....Big Brother, nanny state, war on the motorist. And.....err...revenue generation.
Lots of other buzzwords and clichés.
Except I can't see that anyone's mentioned big brother, nanny state, war on the motorist...
There's been a lot of similar threads here over the years...

You know sometimes it might just be valid. You could just as easily replace it with "stop being a selfish ahole and think about your impact on other people" wink

Speeding in a built up area has nothing whatsoever to do with being a keen driver and everything to do with being a tt.

No, it's a logical fallacy that substitutes emotion for reason.

I think you need to stop being such a keyboard warrior and calm down.

Not in this context. It is only a fallacy if it isn't based on a reasoned argument. I never actually said it, I said that speeding motorists make crossing the road harder when you have small children. This is a fact.

It is a fact. HTH. How do faster moving cars make it easier at crossings?

Various people have been banned from this forum in the past. Quite often they come back with a new user name. I think there may be an example on this thread.

I've never claimed to be a tough bloke, unlike you, from behind the safety of your keyboard.

A bit of me is with the OP.

The penalty does seem harsh for a minor lapse of concentration perhaps. Maybe his first offence in n 100,000 miles of driving?

...especially when you see those "Police, Camera, Action" type TV programmes where serial shoplifters, known career scrotes, drug pushers, etc., get let off with yet another caution.
