Maybe.
Loon was permanently banned. Does anybody other than the moderators know which members' complaints brought that about?
I don't think anyone needed to complain in the end. He was already on the moderators radar and had been warned many times from what I can gather.

As I said in the other thread, I've never been banned. Enjoy your amateur sleuthing.

Maybe, maybe not. It's not unknown for people to simply create a new identity even if there's no particular reason for them to do so. I did it myself a long time ago, IIRC it was because I hadn't posted for a while and couldn't remember my password.

Yeah and any minute now there'll be a post from BV72 that was worth waiting for. Or Loon. Or cyberface for that matter (sorry; before your time). Or... etc, etc.
Ironic given that it was because of the idiots that people like that stopped posting.
Pretty much what I was thinking.

He had been. He also rejoined and then was re-banned, though the second story is a bit more complex. He PM'd me with the details, I just haven't got round to posting it up and I also fear being banned for being a proxy.

I've always thought this forum is for those that like to self harm, it's a way for them to inflict as much pain as possible.

Didn't the motorway limit come in because of the oil crisis?
In the US, it did.

It was temporarily reduced in 1973 to 50.
Correct - http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1973/2059/pdfs/...

Here I think it was more about racing teams doing 170 on the M1, but I might be wrong.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Road_speed_limits_in...
The imposition of the first maximum limit (70mph) occurred long before the oil crisis.
Despite the media frenzy of the time about the M1 being used as a test track, that had nothing to do with it.
How the myth began and the incident which led up to it - http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motorsport/day-j... *
The actual reason for the limit (a series of multiple pile-ups in fog) is in your link.

As well as the speed limit, a warning system was introduced - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGkBSEeJ5oU

M1racing?
A friend of mine's uncle was testing ( he was a test driver/engineer in a racing team) a Cobra...M1...he hit 185mph.
Just before speed limits came in. A coincidence I assume.
Apparently it was the norm in those days to take cars out for testing on the M1, usually in the early hours when the then light traffic was lighter.

A certain car manufacturer of Newport Pagnell never used the M1 for Testing did they ?
That original petrol head , the Chief Constable of Northampton , John Gott was an advocate of removing the 70 limit .
The limit did not prevent the two big smashes in fog in the 70s in the junction 11 to 13 areas , my first ever recovery work .

Trust me sir, there are none here that would defeat me. A few accused me of all sorts, with the courage of distance of course.

If they had read the first page of the post, I don't recall looking for sympathy, as some have inferred. Just advice from anyone who had experienced similar.

But, as usual, the preachers appeared, and they're always right, because that's who they are. I understand, anonymity gives courage, it is, after all...the Internet. smile

Interesting. I wasn't aware that Jack Sears (who died earlier this year) had a passenger in the car when he reached that (calculated) speed.
Sears was the team's race driver (along with co-driver Peter Bolton who was at the wheel at Le Mans when the car crashed due to a blown tyre).

Or are you saying your friend is Jack's nephew?

Nor one from Browns Lane Coventry. wink

My father knew John Gott via Alex Moulton who designed the rubber cone and Hydrolastic suspension systems used by BMC. Alex was previously my father's business partner.
It was John who was mainly responsible for me becoming a lifelong petrolhead. He taught me the real art of driving after I had passed my official test. smile

Just start reporting to moderators if the name calling / childish abuse begins. Often the behaviour here would get you banned on other forums.

It's killing these forums and turning them into something rather horrid and it's the single reason several people I know no longer visit.

If you wouldn't act or talk to someone in such a way face to face, why do it here?

People who can't wait to respond in such a way should have a read..

There are many, many more links if you search.

I don't care on a personal level, there's nothing that could be said that would upset me or raise a pulse, but it makes the environment rather toxic and makes others follow the herd.

I hope I will be forgiven if I point out that the things that pleased me most were the absence of swearing and only one emoticon.

Thank You. I do confess, Shakespeare I am not. But I cannot let the holier than thou brigade rule, I'm a basic lad from a basic background, I call it as i see it. Apologies if I have offended you Sir.
