These are becoming another 'cash cow' for local authorities.

Worth watching BBC London 'Inside Out' at 7:30 this evening.

Simple in theory, but when you advance into clear space after the exit, only to have some in a white van speed across the junction from the adjacent lane and push in, leaving you stranded in the box, it doesn't seem so simple.

Sometimes in very busy cities it can be almost impossible to cross the yellow box legally.

Well I guess I'm lucky as Nottingham is my nearest city and I have never had an issue. What would be a sensible alternative ?

Becoming? 'Bagleys Box' (which I will bet features in the programme) has been raking it in for at least 6 years. With so much income being generated, H&F BC has no incentive to sort out the underlying issue (the two sets of traffic lights at Bagleys Lane/Harwood Road).

That would change if the council get the permissions to prosecute box junction offences.

OMG - same happened to me in Islington (Essex Rd exit), except it was a Ford Puma. They'd have NONE of it though and it cost me £100. It undertook me from the bus lane FFS and took the space I was going to take!

It's a double edged sword. Yes, tts coming up on your side and pushing in leaving you stuck in the junction when your exit was clear at the time of entering, can be a real issue.

But for every one of those, there's 99 fking knobs who just ignore it completely or don't even know what's it means and gridlock the whole junction. I'm glad they'll be getting fined.

London is a good example of how modern driving scenarios and adhering to all the rules just don't work.
There are many occasions where obeying the yellow box junction rule would mean traffic barely moved at all. Blocking a junction is obviously out of order but ignoring the yellow box and leaving enough of a gap for vehicles to cross either behind or in front of you works, even though you are still in the boxed area.

These along with bus lane cameras. We recently got big present of extra bus lanes with cameras in my neck of the woods.

In one year one camera on a single section of bus lane earned them £4m.

Buses only run to 11pm, but that didn't stop one unlucky taxi driver getting stung for £90 for cutting across one at 3am.

One individual has about £5k in fines and is refusing to pay up.

The law actually states the following:

The prohibition that no person shall cause a vehicle to enter the box junction so that the vehicle has to stop within the box junction due to the presence of stationary vehicles.

The crucial bit is in bold. If your exit is clear at your point of entry and someone else unexpectedly nicks that space such that there is no alternative path for you to take then the offence is not made out. See PATAS (now London Tribunals) Essoo -v- L.B. of Enfield (2130232767). The appellant lost but applied for a review which overturned the original adjudicator's decision. The details can be found by a search of the Statutory Register here - https://londontribunals.org.uk/ - (enter the case number without the brackets).

If your circumstances exactly match this then you should go to adjudication quoting the above ruling. Force the LA to produce all the camera footage rather than merely a still image of the end result. One of two things will happen. It won't be able to or you will be proved right.

Thanks. I haven't seen anything in respect of last week's incident, but if I do, I'll use this.

Really? A decade of living in London here, and I've never once been caught out... It's fairly transparent and straightforward.

Ken Figenus won't agree. See his post above.

What about red light "jumpers"?
I am seeing more and more instances of this. Some really stupid ones!
Do the box junction cameras link to catch them?
There is potential to genetate ££££ for genuine safety issues with red light cameras.
