Fag ends - acceptable to drop?
Discussion
Genuine question!
So today I had a rather heated exchange with a rotund female mouth-breather in the car park of Huntingdon B and Q (I know, glamour or what?!). She pulled up and dumped her still lit fag end out of the car window. She then hauled her fat arse out of the car and, seeing me looking at her, deigned to grind out the fag butt with her heel. She didn't take particularly kindly to me pointing out that there was a bin on her way in to the shop, with ashtray of n to p! Apparently it was 'just a ciggie' and I need to 'wind my neck in'.
So ph who's right? Me or the mb?! The over to you!

It's always perplexed me that it has always been kind of acceptable to deposit ones dog ends on the floor; my dad was a Policeman, he hated littering but would always flick his finished ciggies out of the car window.
I think it is disgusting, however it isn't as common as it once was.

I remember a focus on dropping litter about 10yrs ago. In terms of number of items of litter collected, cigarette butts and fag packets were the winners. Obviously nowhere near the greatest in volume terms but shows the problem.
I think it's grim. Just because you suffer from an addiction gives no right to leave the environment littered.

Intolerant opinions being voiced. Cigarette butts not nice but are they worse than the mountain of coffee cups generated every day? Or is coffee and acceptable addiction? How about alcohol? They odd whiff of second hand smoke seems fairly harmless compared to the impact of drinking (fights, domestic violence, sexual assaults, RTCs, impact on NHS and productivity from drinking related accidents or ill health). Shouldn't we ban drinking too?
I don't smoke in case you think I'm defending the habit.

Why is it intolerant to think dropping litter is wrong? If we all justified an action because there are worse things going on in the world then not much gets ruled out. Coffee cups are just as wrong.I don't smoke in case you think I'm defending the habit.
It's crazy and it's not just in the UK....
Just back from two weeks in Sweden, very little if any litter anywhere - except fag ends.. Walked through the little square in Malmo old town on a sunday morning and they where everywhere, thousands of them. Similarly wandering around Kungshamn ( a small fishing village on the north west coast), small car park and again the only litter was fag ends...
The little foam filters are not going to be biodegradable either....

When something is wrong it is wrong. It doesn't make it right because something else is worse.
Fag ends come under the "Litter-what is and isn't Act 1938". Brought in just after the abdication on Edward VIII.
Section 21 of that act clearly states fag ends and other smoking detritus such as chewing gum, favoured by those blighted by tobacco and are coming to their senses, are not to be considered as litter. Sub section (2) further says that no British subject shall either notice, comment upon or be otherwise offended by such deposits in the U.K. Ant its dominions.
So there you go.
By the way, the act got royal ascent pretty quick, the royals are notorious chain-smokers.

It's a fair point he's making that you and others won't entertain, that's all.
If I had my way I'd ban alcohol completely - cigarette butts come much further down the list.
I'd also ban takeaway coffee and plastic supermarket bags of any kind.
