My church gets away with the wine for 'voluntary contributions' thing every Sunday.
Lousy measures, though...I've come across similar to the OP's situation, but via a raffle with a suspicious similarity between the number of tickets and the number of prizes. Always struck me as shonky and open to problems, so it's good to see Reg's pragmatism. Problems will start, though, if/when the objections start to become unavoidable for TPTB...

Back in the day when pubs shut at 11pm and there were very few night clubs, an indian restauarant used to have a rave until about 5am by charging £5 for a plate of chips. WHen you went in you were given a raffle ticket which you could exchange for chips (Very few did).I've come across similar to the OP's situation, but via a raffle with a suspicious similarity between the number of tickets and the number of prizes. Apparantly the idea was that you are allowed to drink whilst eating a meal.
They went on for many years and were almost opposite the police station

They probably had a license to serve alcohol with food though...Apparantly the idea was that you are allowed to drink whilst eating a meal.

Chair of the local Pre-school. She's raised it once before.
One of her committee has given word that she's looking into it more actively..... While enforcement risk seems slight it's there, and who really needs that stress.
They have not bough the booze yet, so it may be cut down numbers of non-alcoholic beer and wine this time around...
Odds are she will no way be as squeaky clean as she thinks she is generally, nor "her" parents on parking restriction compliance specifically. What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, and parking enforcement will be far more interested than licence enforcement, especially if the "kiddies" are at risk. And I am sure the Head has no reason to draw the Ofstead inspector's attention to the preschool either...One of her committee has given word that she's looking into it more actively..... My parents have an off licence and before the change in licensing laws, couldn't serve booze on a Sunday between midday and 4pm although they stayed open as they also sold groceries, cigs and newspapers. Used to have a regular who was a copper who always bought during the precluded hours and just said it would be fine if the booze was wrapped in newspaper...

We used to leave the local club at 2am and pile down to this indian restaurant to carry on until 5.30ish.
They did have a food licence, hence the £5 for the chips to get around the licencing laws

The Barber shop I go to give free beers to waiting customers.
They are under them impression it's 100% legal as they aren't selling them.
I assume from this thread that sadly they are misinformed?
Not that I'll be doing anything about it as I enjoy my free beer
Almost certainly illegal if you're baldThey are under them impression it's 100% legal as they aren't selling them.

If an attractive girl of 20 went to bed with me or anyone else in exchange for a "donation" of £80, we all know what this really is, and the courts would deal with us accordingly.
bad example, cos that isn't actually illegalsoliciting, pimping, running a brothel are all illegal, but sex for money isn't
