Am so cross Need to share this story. At a hospice I work alongside a lovely nurse who holds down 2 jobs sometimes working 3 days & nights non-stop to make ends meet looking after her son yet she gets so pre-occupied with work worries she habitually loses concentration when behind the wheel & speeds. She already has 6 points on her licence (she thinks!!)& at 70mph in a 60mph limit has just gone round a blind corner & past a speed camera van parked 100 yards before a fixed camera. She flipping well knows it's a favoured camera vans location too!!
She wonders if a SAC course will be offered, & I have suggested that's highly unlikely given the excess speed & previous points.
As well as being cross am frustrated that there is no way I as a work colleague can persuade her to change her driving habits or take some of the work & her lifestyle stress's away from her.
Thanks for reading & I know it's all in the lap of luck & the Gods.

Anyone who works in a hospice should be exempt from it as far as I'm concerned , but back in the real world, here's hoping she gets the easy route, best of luck to her.

Sounds like a liability who will never learn lessons from her past mistakes!

Doesn't matter how many jobs she has, where she works, etc.

Where do you draw the line? Which jobs are special enough to earn leniency?

70 in a 60 is well within the threshold for a speed awareness course, they don't give you anything for less than 68
already having 6 points shouldn't matter

Habitually loses concentration? That's the worrying part for me

I was under the impression a course was only offered if you had zero points and no recent history with that force.

Sorry, but for all the good she does in the hospice, she sounds like a danger behind the wheel. No excuses in my book for not paying attention.

Agree with the sentiments so far.

I don't see why having such an honorable job suggests one should be permitted to drive without concentrating.

Consistently speeding while stressed and habitually losing concentration? Great combo. Maybe a short ban is what she needs.

One of the social workers I work alongside is a carbon copy of this woman. An abosolutely sterling worker and a credit to the profession.However.....she is a complete fking liability behind the wheel and has already accrued 9 points on her licence.
I've only been in the car with her once, when we both had to go and complete a client assessment together. Let's just say it was not an experience I'd want to repeat. Excessive speeding, cutting people up, dangerously under and over taking and red light jumping were just few of the stunts she pulled eek

An indicated 70 is probably no more than 68 anyway, so she may be lucky this time...

Would probably benefit from a spell on public transport imo.

Wow! Someone agreeing with roofer! 😂

No matter how commendable your profession is it shouldn't mean you are above the law.

Is there a cheap Tom Tom or other brand of Sat Nav that beeps alerts when you exceed the speed limit?

I know some cars come with such a function from the factory.

Out of interest is the favoured spot for the camera van before an accident blackspot? Does that stretch of road have a history of accidents?

There's a tomtom speed camera app. It's free, and it beeps to let you know there's a camera coming up. Somehow it knows when you're driving (maybe bluetooth connection to my car stereo?) and beeps even when it's in my pocket. I think you can set up speed alerts on it.

She'll get a break when she gets a ban and can't get to work...then maybe she'll realise that there really isn't an excuse for not paying attention when behind the wheel.

Nobody is above the law.

Except the police, obviously.
