I sold a smoothie maker on ebay - was brand new unwanted present. Buyer paid and i sent this week. 2 days later get a return request open and says it keeps turning off.
Got it back today and it looks like a different one to what i sent.

One of the reasons why I simply won't use ebay for high value items, or for things that aren't cash on collection.

I guess the only thing you could have done is gathered evidence of the item before you sent it (i.e., serial number, photo's of any specific marks etc.). You could then try to use this in your defence.

Unfortunately, I haven't had to do anything like this on ebay yet. From what I've read, they pretty much side with the buyer.

Do you have anything to prove the identity of the item is different?

I have heard quite a few examples now of gits sending a different item back.

If eBay / Paypal won't help it can't hurt to report to Actionfraud (and let the buyer know). Tell the buyer the fake item almost certainly has their fingerprints on it, and would they like to refund you.

Well, it might work ...

Sadly its tuff titty. I learnt the hard way too. I now send pics of the serial numbers or post them with the listing with electrical goods or anything that is of value. As others have said I normally can't be arsed selling stuff on eBay because the level of fraud.

Suggest to the seller you'll be popping by in a couple of weeks as your working nearby & wish to collect the one you sent him. I've done this a few times & miracles sometimes arrive in the post pronto!

Its that or send them something awful through the post

Where is the buyer?

If anywhere near me Id be very happy to pop a polite note through their letterbox which should at least give them a fright

Looks like the scammer scammed themself - seller won that case. smile

To the OP, what method was used to send the item back to you? And have you informed the buyer that you've received the item?

I had someone try this with the "it doesn't work" line on electronics. When I replied that it had been tested before sending out and asked them to confirm the serial number on the unit, I never heard another peep out of them.

royalmail signed for yes have told them I have had it back. I dont hold out much hope to be honest as ebay seem to love the buyer but have no support for sellers.

You dont have a choice - as they have used the pre paid royal mail ebay label as soon as it is delivered they get refunded or maybe a its a few days after. But it's all automatic. So they may as well have sent me an argos catalogue back in the bloody post!

You can't do anything nowadays, you've been done! It's great for buyers but a nightmare when selling.

Take pics of the serial numbers, include these on your ads. Take them to small claims court if Ebay won't play, at worst take Ebay to small claims court assuming you have enough proof.
