What he said. Some Insurers will have a continuous duty of disclosure i.e. you have to tell them as soon as is practicable of any material changes. Some ask you to tell them at renewal.

You're lucky they're just asking for the increase in premium to provide the cover which is in place. You mate would have been in serious trouble if they declined to provide cover as insurer concerned. They could have had the option to have voided the policy from the time of the material non disclosure.

He could always ask for a £76 rebate for the 14 days he wasn't driving..... but yes, he should have told them and I think they're actually being quite reasonable only asking for the premium increase and not simply voiding the cover.

It would seem a rebate should then be due if a conviction becomes spent mid-term.
