Wow, didn't know that. Thanks for the info, it makes me feel a lot better about it all now.

Many cars don't have them where they'd cause damage in this kind of impact. They're either hidden well out of the way, or they screw in when required.

Have to admit, I can't mentally picture how they'd be a problem here, either. Photo?
Same here, hence my earlier comment. All Google provides is this collection of horrors:

Who are you insured with, if you dont mind me asking?
Why did you not lose all of your no claims? Thanks!
Because nobody loses all their NcD for the first accident if you have over 5 years. Check your insurance document, it will tell you that you'll only lose 2 or 3 years for the first claim.
Although each insurance company has its own rules, it seems generally that if you have up to 5 years NCD you'll lose 2 years but if you have more than 5 years NCD you'll be taken back to 3 years. You would need to check the T&Cs of course.

The guy will possibly have to pay what's called betterment, I have known this when panels were already rusty or a tyre is damaged as part of an accident.

Your insurers will want to pay as little as possible.

Of course it didn't, I sit at home dreaming up stories all day to please the masses..silly ol me.

  • I don't know the EXACT ins and outs of his case but he did pay cash, and did have the guy claim against him as a fault claim and he also paid his excess, so I assume he thought bugger it and had his car fixed too given he now had a fault claim anyways
Like I said, I don't doubt that the sequence of events happened, but there's no point scaring the OP that he may end up paying his excess as well as that's simply not the case. I didn't say you'd dreamt it up, just that the facts weren't right. You've climbed down and admitted you don't know exactly what happened so let's leave it at that...

Who are you - the internet police?

The lad has explained what happened & now you need photographic evidence!

You've latched onto the one snip of the info I provided which wasn't the sole point of my post. The warning was not to pay cash as there is nothing stopping the guy putting a claim in through insurance and you losing whatever cash you have paid as well as still ending up with a Fault claim. I didn't say he would HAVE to pay his excess, I mentioned the lad I know did for one reason or another.

Well that number plate is clearly illegal. I think you'll be looking at a 10 stretch to be honest. By the time you're out, when you fart it will sound like a cough.

I wasn't aware the MX5 had two permanently fixed tow eyes in the front grille and assumed (wrongly as it turns out) that you had one of those show in my Google Images search - my apologies.

It's very simple - if it does end up going to insurance, and a mod that you've not told them about IS directly responsible for causing/increasing the damage, you're going to have a bill handed to you...

That must have been a bit more of an impact than "very minor" and just knocking the plate mount off, for those to connect with the door.

But, yep, looks like they're definitely original, although they're not normally so visible.

Several of us were expecting it to turn out to be this sort of thing...

Worse case offer him £150, but GET A SIGNED RECEIPT.

I went into the back of someone in a previous car of mine, at a roundabout. They pull away, I pull away...they change their mind & i'm busy looking right. Your standard ''a fking bus could have pulled out there, why did you stop!?!?'' type affair.

Gave him £150 as his car was also a snotter, got a receipt and all done & dusted in 30mins.

Just for the record - they're not for towing with. Affectionately referred to as 'baby teeth' they are attachments for strapping down cars being transported.

Just for the record, I know that.
