By way of note, if a car is sold by a small trader it can have finance on it that may not flagged on HPI. Something to do with stock finance...

Not relevant here but shows the pitfalls.
would be a criminal act and wouldn't last long i bet. the same as the ops seller, nefariously sold the car, but in this whole saga seems to have been left out the equation.

What I'm not clear about is whereabouts of the vehicle. As I understand these situations, finance company get bailiffs to seize car, finance company put car into auction and collect.

Not so however here. I have asked before where the car has been, unanswered.

So what I can't understand is why would the Finance bods just park it up...?

It's unusual...

All I can think is that the message got through to them in time, or they sensed trouble... Normally the repo agent will take them straight to the auction house...

He probably swapped his pc for a tin of magic beans coated in snake oil.

Maybe the bank have confirmed the car will not be returned or that the car has already been auctioned and the funds it raised cleared the outstanding finance just.

Or there was a large amount left over once the outstanding finance had been paid, which was returned to the registered keeper!!! drunk

That's an option.

Where is OP?

Did he also incur legal fee costs for the advice?

Good luck.

Personally, I think you need to be pushing them harder.

2 whole working days plus the Sat when they would also be working has past with nothing from them.

OP clearly you don't want to post up the reg number - can you yourself carry out a full HPI report now to see if it is cleared or not, also that will give you number of owners if it's greater than the chap you sold it to clearly it's been sold at auction in which case you are hoping for a cheque from he bank

I will HPI when I hear something from Barclays, will most likely call them in the morning and then HPI in the afternoon. It's been a busy few days with work so haven't had chance to chase it much Friday or today.

So some of the people on this thread who are in the business can do a full search for him.

I hope you get the outcome you desire, but I do question your integrity of selling the car on when it is reasonable to assume finance was outstanding - I know you plead ignorance on this but that call from the dealer is the nail in the coffin.

Karma has a way of delivering and if you were aware I hope you get nothing back.

For £12k one would hope he would do it himself.

Might be buttons to him - I get the impression it isn't. (Actually £12k loss to anyone would be a kick in the balls)
