First off OP I am very sorry to read this, I can't believe a garage can charge nearly 7k to fix an engine (badly)

I am only posting this link so you can show the garage owner what can be bought for nearly 7k, he could have bought a complete body damaged car....and a spare engine.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-S2000-2-0i-VTEC-Ro...

I hope you get this resolved soon.

I would also seek legal advice.
Sounds like cowboys.

Surprises me why people in this day and age don't go to trusted garages who specialise in certain cars.

This garage specialises in modern and classic sports cars, who also do Honda engine conversions into lotus Elise's, and one of the mechanics owns an S2000 powered car and another ones wife has an S2000. They were meant to be specialists with a good reputation, shame they've taken the piss.

That's shocking.

There's a hundred breakers out there to get an engine from, they could just type in S2000 engine on eBay and have an engine the next day with a warranty for £2500.

£6500 to replace an engine/gearbox/clutch is crazy, is the car even worth that?

OK, so that's saved £850+vat. For an engine and gearbox that can't be tested.

Thats a bummer. Maybe some naming and shaming on online forums they sponsor would be a good way to go...being careful, of course

OP, if they specialise in Honda engine conversions etc, did you check the engine no to confirm it was definitely your block? Did you see it in your car before they removed it. The long periods of silence would concern me.

Let's hope they haven't taken your engine and swapped it for a lesser engine and charged you for the privilege. Sorry that's my devious mind working, they wouldn't do that.

I did inspect my old engine when I went to pick the car up, it was cracked and beyond repair, unfortunately.

Out of interest, if the new engine they have fitted is fubar, is there anyway I can just get them to take it back out and ask for my money back? I really don't want them working on my car anymore.

So a grand saved straight up, and the 'tested' hasn't made any difference by the look of things. At least an engine from a beaker would be have a warranty.

It sounds like they saw you coming and ripped you off (probably).

When one of my customers blew up his S2000 engine after 10 months ownership we found him a guaranteed replacement from a breaker on ebay for £1800 and only charged £450 to fit it (all in). Its not a difficult job.

Did they provide you with any sort of warranty with the replacement engine?

You saw an engine when you went to pick it up. I can't work out how a broken clutch cracks and engine block. I'd be looking very closely at the engine number on the engine and compare it to the one of your V5. I have a bad idea you might find the engine has not been changed.

Its quite likely based on the absurd price they have quoted you.

I'd also be out checking the engine number.

18 hours labour too. Cracker that!

Regarding my old engine block, I sold it to one of the mechanics who works there for £250. I did check it over and it was pretty messed up so I didnt want to keep it really.
Most of the issues have been picked up by the other posters - but I'm a bit stumped by this.

If your engine was scrap, and the best way out was a replacement - why would anyone want the old, cracked, block?

It was the mechanic with an S2000 powered classic, he wanted it for spare parts, that's what he told me anyway.

OP, do you definitely know it was your engine though? You inspected an engine but how did you confirm it was yours? I am assuming it was still in the car?

Does this garage have 3 letters as its name?
