Can anyone confirm or dispel some myths for me, please?

The Welsh speed Taliban have sent me a NIP today for an alleged 68 in a 60 on the M4.

Myth 1
The alleged offence was committed on 2nd November but the NIP is dated 25th November.
What happened to the 14 day rule?

Myth 2

10% + 2 MPH ?

Fekkin hate Wales...

It is up to the police to be able to prove that in the normal course of events, the NIP would have arrived at the last known address of the registered keeper within the 14 day time limit

Contest it!

Neither are myths. The police need to serve the NIP on the registered keeper in 14 days. There are some exceptions to this. If you are not the registered keeper you don't need a NIP at all but you will be sent a request to name the driver.

68mph is 10% of 60 + 2 mph. What many people don't read are the words that accompany the simple sum "it is expected the minimum action to be taken is the issue of a fixed penalty as soon as the following speeds have been reached".

If a myth is defined as ignorance then the beliefs you had are myths.

Do you have any friends?

And if you wish to pontificate, 68mph is not 10% of 60 + 2mph. That would be 8mph.

Are you the registered keeper of the vehicle?

Are your details up to date with the DVLA etc?

Don't be so desperate to leave the green green grass of home next time!

Presumably variable speed limit zone Cardiff to Newport? Had you lived in Wales you would have know that the 6 years of doing 90 in a 40 temporary because it was 2am were over and they'd put some sheep with Polaroids up in the gantries.

Basically, cough up, if no SAC offered it isn't a first offence?

Pay by cheque but add an extra penny.
The cheque will never get cashed but the noticed will be received and be acknowledged as paid. It's a glitch in the payment system wink

Add some brackets and it would be.

Maths 101. smile

The first one is (60 x 0.1) +2 = 8
The second is (60 + 2) x 0.1 = 6.2
Where no brackets are shown the order of operations states that multiplication/division precedes addition/subtraction, so 8 is the correct answer.

If the guy was doing 8mph in a 60mph zone then it wouldn't be a speed ticket?!

The 2 mph leeway above the ten percent is discretionary...dependent upon who is bringing the prosecution.

So a prosecution CAN be brought at 67 mph in a 60.
