I've seen lots of local initiatives on social media where the Police take little Johnny and Katie et al from the local school, dress them up in little Police costumes and parade them around the side of the road. They then stop motorists which look to be driving a little quickly and get the kids to recite a little types up paragraph about the risks of speeding blah blah blah.

I know this is better for the motorist than getting points or having to attend a SAC. Also, it does raise awareness about speeding near schools.

However, it just irks me that they are using kids to talk down to motorists. What would happen if you stopped (you had to stop as it would be a Police officer flagging you down), you sat silently whilst the kid admonished you and then went into a diatribe about how Santa Claus isn't real, the tooth fairy isn't real, they aren't going to get their Xmas presents this year because they've been bad, their dad is having an affair etc, etc until the kid breaks down and hates the Police for putting them in that situation. An offence won't have been committed would it?

It's not happened to me and I don't think anyone would seriously do it but I was just thinking out aloud on my lunch break.

Why are you lunching so late?

I always stroll to the Savoy Grill at 1pm sharp for my usual table. Isn't that what everybody does?

I usually go to the club for a warm sandwich, a couple of whiskeys, read the paper, and perhaps a nap.

Wouldn't be the first time plod getting the general public to do their own work for them.

I remember reading that Merseyside plod started stopping motorists in the Wirral going more than 30mph past a school. They had the option of a fixed penalty or they had the option of sitting in front of a panel of primary school children and asked why they were speeding and what would have happened if they would have hit them by speeding 2 mph over the limit.

as for the source, heres your source

http://www.wirralglobe.co.uk/news/14914951.Speedin...__Kid___s_Court__as_Road_Safety_Week_begins/

Then there is the lets pretend to be traffic wardens scheme in Bradford. I suppose motorists are less likely to swear and hurl abuse at children but do your own dirty work councils.

I'm not sure it'd amount to an offence, but I expect the discretion for the motoring offence would quickly disappear.

I suspect you'd get shut down fairly bloody quickly, and told that not only were you about to be prosecuted for the speeding that got you stopped in the first place.
It'd be nice to think that they'd skip the FPN, and just go straight to a court date, with your rant presented to the magistrate along with the details of the offence...

I think you'll find it's about educating children about excessive speed and its dangers as opposed to admonishing drivers.

I've seen it happening in Somerset a few weeks ago.

I went past at the speed limit sticking my tongue out at them.

You could do the diatribe perfectly politely. No one said you had to be nice.

Why were you speeding? Because I like driving fast.

What would happen if you hit one of us at 2 mph over the limit? Either you'd die or you wouldn't. Walking in the road is a bad idea.

Are you sorry? No.

No, it's not. It happened to me in Colchester a few years ago. Primary school kids in the car park of the village hall. Copper stepped into road and stopped me. No speed gun reading or proof. I was told I'd have to listen to what the kids said and then answer their questions. It was all very much to make the driver look like a bad guy. Kids had obviously been prepped and given questions to use. Asking if I had children, do I care about road safety etc etc. I listened to a couple and then said I was leaving. Copper tried to make me stay but with no proof of speeding in the first place I was confident, I could walk away when I wanted. And so it proved. The female school teacher with them stood in my way and called me a name in front of the whole class. Very professional. Whole thing was a load of guilt trip bks.

She stood in front of me to try and prevent me leaving (somewhat futile seeing as were in bloody car park not a corridor) and called me a bloody disgrace and made a comment about my choice of car. In fact I think my car played a big part in why I was pulled over in the first place. Copper probably couldn't believe his luck. Horrible man in fast loud car needs his wings clipped.

I assumed the woman was a teacher but she could be one of the mums/car hater helping push the agenda. Either way she appeared to be representing the school because the only other adults there were the coppers and me, and therefore she should've been more circumspect in speaking out in front of her charges.

Did you query why you'd have to listen to the kids and answer there questions?

He had no speed gun , you weren't speeding so hadn't broken the law so why was he holding you against your will?
