Consumer Rights Question
Discussion
Bought a new pair of Footjoy golf shoes 21 months ago, but had them replaced after 10 months with a new pair as part of the sole came away from the shoe. Shoes weren't cheap and I paid £120 for them, now after 11 months with new ones, one of the shoes has started leaking from the sole. They come with a 12 month waterproof guarantee but the Pro told me that the original 12 month warranty would expire after two months from the last exchange date. I haven't spoken to him yet so just trying to find out If this is normal with a warranty, rather than embarrass myself? Wouldn't be so bad but I don't even wear them during the Summer months so they have only had 3 or 4 months of use

FJ's should not be leaking ib that time frame. Raise it with your Pro.TooLateForAName said:
sod the g'tee, they are not fit for purpose.
Why does someone always trot this outIt's just wrong, not fit for purpose is almost never relevant to any consumer rights thread, it's almost always an issue of not satisfactory quality.
Not fit for purpose in the case of a pair of golf shoes would mean they were not suitable for playing golf in, not that they did not last as many rounds of golf as expected.
IMO.
I wouldn't go steaming in giving it all "I know my rights". The warranty is probably from the point of original purchase. BUT! depending on your pro he may hook you up with another pair FOC, or do a screaming deal on a replacement pair. Make it clear you want to maintain a good relationship, talk to him how you'd like to be treated and appeal to his better nature.

A bit O/T but FJs are simply no longer waterproof. I had one pair of Dryjoy Pro's replaced within a month and two other pairs that leaked within 12. Other brands are no better. I've given up with finding waterproof golf shoes and bought Sealskinz waterproof socks instead. Totally waterproof and far more durable for between £20 & £30 a pair
Good luck getting them replaced OP but they'll only leak again.

Yup. He's right. The warranty is from the purchase date. You may or may not have a strong argument that a £120 pair of specialist shoes should last more than 21mo of occasional wear for the purpose they're explicitly sold for - walking across a big lawn while waving a stick at a ball every now and then. But how much time, effort and blood pressure do you want to put into that? You've had nearly two years of use out of them, so a full refund is probably not appropriate. You clearly don't just want them exchanging for another pair.

Yes, this was my thinking. Still a little peeved that after no more than 3 to 4 months (actual use) they should start leaking. Won't do no harm to speak to the Pro, he can only say no.You may or may not have a strong argument that a £120 pair of specialist shoes should last more than 21mo of occasional wear for the purpose they're explicitly sold for - walking across a big lawn while waving a stick at a ball every now and then.
