trying to get ahead should the worse happen - wondering what my best options are here

Reversed into parked car in a car park, braked at last minute so cars only just touching. No visible damage to either cars. Details given to other car just in case.

Not heard anything (and hopefully won't!) but just wondering about best course of action should we do - never been involved in an accident before. Have about 7 years no claims.

Thoughts?

Here are my thoughts, well you did ask.

This was no accident, the collision could have been avoided by you watching where you were going.

How long were you reversing for if you only braked at the last "minute"?

Did the car you reversed into say thank you after you had given your details to it?

Seriously, if you really did only nudge the car, and there was no damage then why leave a note? If you did I applaud your honesty but you are leaving yourself open for a claim for subsequent damage if (big if) the owner of the car goes and hits something like a gate post.

Did you take a photograph of the cars touching and no damage?

You may or may not have had a reportable accident.

A reportable accident is one where damage is caused to another vehicle (there are additional non-relevant circumstances which could make it a reportable accident).

By attaching your details to the other vehicle it might be assumed you were aware of damage as if there was none, there was no reason to.

You can normally see if there has been contact by a smudge in the dirt on both or either car.

If you have had an accident you must stop.

If you had damaged the other vehicle and there was no one to give your details to you should report the accident to the police, within 24 hrs.

Well done on your honesty, plenty would have driven off.

Did you take any photo's, at least that way would have proof of any "damage" if anything comes of it.

Wow, that's just unbelievably harsh.

OP, well done for being honest, I'm sure that will be the last you hear of it if no actual damage done.

You're surprised?

Typical arrogant 'I would never be stupid enough to do the same thing' SP&L shocker post.

I mean, obviously this wasn't an accident. OP, whether aware or not, set out to intentionally damage his and an innocent bystanders car rolleyes

This place and certain posters are a joke sometimes....

Well done OP for fessing up, even if there was no damage. Might be worth dropping your insurance company a quick call to inform them that, whilst there didn't appear to be any damage, they should just be aware. Might save you some crap from them later if the other party does decide to raise it with the insurance.

Inform your insurer for information purposes only. Tell them you're probably not expecting a claim as there was no meaningful damage. Get on with your life.

Nothing to add but applauding your honesty! Hopefully karma will smile on you more in future. smile

edit: I dont think I would inform the insurers. Especially if the other party give you a ''£100 for a chips away repair and call it quits'' option. Minute you tell your insurer your declaring it for the next 5 years.

Only do this if you want your premiums to rise...
