Obama has ordered the CIA to officially investigate Russia's role in influencing the election. Investigation to conclude before the inauguration ceremony. It'll be very interesting to see what's uncovered and the fallout could be seismic. Trump is in denial about it all.

I can't work out at which point people stopped caring about whether they lie or are lied to. The referendum campaign was riddled with lies on both sides that nobody has been held to account for and the US election took things to another level entirely, Hilary going to jail, claiming the election was and then wasn't rigged and yet it just gets lost in the noise. These are very confusing times and yet those who are rightly confused are castigated for being moaners, or sore losers.

One of the fastest ways in modern history to begin a civil war has been the rejection of election results.
Let's see how long it takes in Gambia...

Trump supporters may be the toothless, inbred, "basket of deplorables" but, they have all the guns.

Perhaps the CIA could also investigate donations to Hillary's campaign fund.
It would be very un-Clinton-like to not have accepted several hundreds of thousand or even millions from Chinese business and government, possibly via the Clinton Foundation.

Before people make themselves look foolish on this thread, they might want to look at who is calling for this investigation ... bi-partisan support in the house and senate ... and it's nothing new. The CIA has been making these allegations for years. The GoP is criticising Obama for not doing this sooner.

Twitter, facebook, linkedin. The endless lies and posturing have become a way of life.
It's spilling over more and more into hard copy as the biased news media outlets watch higher and higher degrees of deceit pass unnoticed and without comment.

Was about to post similar: Surely it has been in the interest of the US's enemies to interfere in US elections, well, forever. It would be naïve in the extreme to think they haven't been doing it and, therefore, something of a surprise that it's only being investigated now.

Agreed, investigation going back to 2008 so far more to this than anti Trump.

Gents, the Press may be a bit st at the moment, and the current rise of political "populism" is daft ... but we do need to keep a sense of proportion. There's a difference between lies and differing opinions. There are a lot of lies flying around, but even if people always said what they genuinely believed, the voter would still hear completely contradictory statements of fact from different parties. They honestly disagree about a lot of things that they consider to be "facts". And there's still plenty of unbelievably easy-to-access high quality media available. Claims have never been easier to check. It has always taken effort to come to an informed opinion. Populism doesn't deliver, so it'll go out of vogue too.

I believe it is not even a new investigation he has asked for, but effectively a summary of the evidence.
Despite what the tinfoil-hatters want to believe, there is no suggestion of this enquiry/report changing the result of the election. At worst, it will be potentially embarrasing for Trump, who seems immune to embarrasment anyway.

yes

That's the whole point around what some people are saying, namely those acting without any assistance from tinfoil.

Anyone thinking otherwise is foolish.

It's a pity he wasn't as keen to get the FBI to investigate Hillary but still, this is a start.

I also suspect he is doing this now because Trump would do it and score points for "anti corruption" in time...

I like the response from Trump's team, "The same people that said Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction."

So what are they saying? They're not fit for purpose? Or one of the times they were wrong (as with most intelligence there's that risk) means they are wrong again?

Why not investigate Trump's funding too - after all, one of his SuperPACs was more than willing to accept $2 million from a Chinese backer, despite that being clearly illegal. They had a clear process for hiding the source of the funding too - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/10/24/exclusi...

I'd think any investigation of funding will show both sides are as dodgy as each other.

If the FBI couldn't find anything to charge Hilary Clinton with, I would take the results of this investigation with a pinch of salt too.

Last time I looked, the FBI had been paying plenty of attention to Clinton. And as a matter of principle you don't want politicians telling the FBI specifically what they should and shouldn't be investigating.

But what has Clinton and her possible misdemeanours got to do with investigating Russia's conduct? Absolutely nothing. They are two completely separate things and it's daft to try to link the two.

I have no problem with that.
I'm in no way a fan of either Donald or Hillary.

I will however admit to a certain guilty pleasure in watching the aftermath of the election.
All those marching, crying, screaming snowflakes.
It did get boring quite quickly though.
