Well if you use your phone whist driving you are a dick and deserve all you get. Van drivers are by far the highest percentage i see doing it, even had a van driver coming towards me steering with elbows as he text with both hands.... I confess to turning round and going after him and we nearly had a full on fight but to be fair he clocked my lad in the car and his mate (rugby players) and we just ended up with in your face shouting.
Cretins.
Congrats on being the first person on this post to be a dick.

Your attitude also stinks and you're lucky the van driver didn't lay you out.

Especially with your kid in the back, that's just asking for trouble.

Do you have a dash cam?
Why? I was stationary he was on my veering onto my side of the road looking at his phone texting or playing a game, i had to honk my horn to alert him and he stopped, looked shocked and instead of saying sorry he gave me the nescafe sign....so I went after him to have a word....which i did and two adults had a row...
He was one of those self employed van drivers who work for Amazon etc I assume as he was Eastern Bloc, most likely not insured to be doing deliveries either...

Don't drive and text you plebs.
What a truly delightful person you are.
Says the prat who not only breaks the law but is too stupid to not get caught. I hope you get 6 points personally.
Thank you smile

The big difference, of course, is that he stuck his hand up and said "I did something really stupid", whereas you're all bluster and denial.

What am I denying?
I think driving whilst texting on a phone is dense. And driving whilst having a phone to your ear is open to debate on how dangerous it really is, but seeing people openly doing it is just stupid and totally pointless and it's just asking for them to take your money and points.
No point complaining about it, it's really very simple.
Like anyone who gets stung by a bright yellow box in clear view....your an idiot, no point moaning if speeding fines are unfair, you missed a big yellow box so you're a buffoon.
I personally love speed camera's as its means less real Police on the roads so as long as you can spot a yellow box you are pretty much free to do what you want in a lot of places.
I've not been stopped in 15 years and I've been driving 23 years now.....clean license.

Because, diddums "day wont let me text an drive init, dat not fair".

News flash, if something is illegal and you get caught, tough. Take the risks, but don't moan about it, life isn't fair, if you must use your phone then put it on speaker phone and have it in your lap, don't drive down the motorway with it to your right ear!! It's not the illegality of it that bothers me, it's just a bit thick to get caught being so blatant.

I don't think anyone is moaning about it at all. OP hasn't complained at all!?

As I said, you are a sad, strange little man.

No one on here has suggested that texting whilst driving isn't a dumb thing to do.

In fairness since Winsor and the massive cuts in officer numbers over the last few years, you've got to be fairly unlucky and/or fairly obviously breaking the law to get pulled up by actual PCs these days. You might encounter some civvy cowering in a van with a speed gun at the most.

So when you "chased" this guy you didn't break any speed limits to catch up with the driver? or was this a 30mph vs 31mph chase that took 2 hours to close the 500m gap that opened as you turned around?

there are LOTS of things that cause distractions while driving

what i see as stupid is a law that singles out the usage of mobiles. holding a phone to your ear while driving is seen and punished as worse than reading the news paper when driving. I see it as people being the issue not the phone. I can scratch my ear for 10mins but thats ok.holding a phone in the same position is notwink

i'm totally against people not paying attention while driving BUT that shouldn't be just limited to phone use.

i'd say a v high proportion of us speed from time to time but it is seen as way more acceptable than holding a phone to the ear.

the truck driver video is scary but there are similar accidents where a phone wasn't involved. he could have been asleep or changing the radio or looking for some travel sweets in the glove box.

Sorry you got busted. i'm indifferent. wont slate you nor will i praise you. the modern world is a strange place smile

JJ
Spot on in all respects.
Not really spot on in ALL repsects in my opinion as he is missing the big fact that not only is he holding his hand near his ear but he is also concentrating on something else. Often talking on a phone becomes the main task and driving the secondary task. I am sure that we have all seen it from the car in front that does not move on a green light to those with poor road positioning.

I like to think that when I speed that I always have both hands on the wheel (I generally do anyway) and am concentrating fully on the road - potential hazards and not talking to any passengers. Driving is a skill but unfortunately most people pay lip service to it hence all the regulations.

Pip
agreed and thats the due care and attention piece that cam aslo come about even if using hands free.... like you said, some people can only focus on the chatting and not the driving. TBH, what conversation really cant wait an hour???

That was my point. Well done. So to get caught on your mobile makes you a bit thick does it not?
Plenty of places I know which are basically like private roads these days you ca do what you want.

So you agree that what you did - chasing down another road user and confronting them - was a mind-meltingly stupid thing to do?

Of course it's stupid! It's beyond stupid and my Son let me know afterwards how stupid it was as he and his mate were put into a position of possibly having to see someone they care about getting a slap and the consequences of if they then stepped in to help.
It was silly, heat of the moment stuff.
But I still stand by the fact that this van driver was about to drive into me because he was texting and then went on to be abusive when he was in the wrong... that's why I 'lost it'. No cats or children were killed though...

So some van driver is about to drive into your because they aren't looking at the road whilst texting and you beep to alert them and they get alongside you and do the nescafe sign....you do what?

I'm the one with a ste attitude?
Road rage is not the answer, but wanting to educate someone is, if the driver decided to lamp me then fine, i was safe in the knowledge i was 'right', If the van driver had a knife and stabbed me is that me at fault? Or the person who carries a knife round? Should we all turn away from ass holes and let them get on with it?

Your either a pussy or lying.

I can say I've had a fair few "near misses" . People nearly hitting me, cutting me up, side swiping, etc, likewise I'm sure I've made a few mistakes in my time.

If you think you have the right to "educate" someone (I presume you must never make mistakes and be qualified to educate other drivers) then I'd like to see your credentials.

I think many times it's not worth the stress or hassle, I know how to diffuse a situation, because it's not worth the stress, in 5 minutes you'll have forgotten about it. Or not, as you obviously haven't.

I can honestly say in all my years of motoring I've never chased or yelled at anyone.

You clearly suffer from road rage, and general anger issues, from the way you present yourself on here. One day you will get all brody to the wrong guy and end up in hospital.

Edit: also, it's you're.

have a WOOOSH .
