I thought this had gone the same way as parking on the pavement, as in not enforced anymore.

On Friday I saw a car pulled over by a plain Police vehicle in Worcester, and the chap was cleaning his plate.

A big thumbs up to plod from me on this one, it isn't just about identifying a vehicle (although that can obviously be important), the plate is also a fooking great reflector.

My idiot step-son thought my wife's plate looked dirty recently. He cleaned it, but ignored the equally dirty lights next to it....

I got annoyed a few years back, used to commute Orpington > Reading daily in an Astra Sporthatch diesel...the plates got filthy but I loved it, my manager (a bit of a petrolhead) cleaned them but nothing else!

Was gutted as there was a pretty big spec's zone on my commute!

I stop dirty plates all the time. I carry a pack of wet wipes with me and offer them a wet wipe or a ticket. They always choose the wet wipe.

Just last week, 2 stops just to advice on number plate ended up being no insurance seizures.

While you cleaned neither.

Yet he's the idiot?

He's definitely not thought that post through!

Of course, we shouldn't leave Mrs surveyor out either, as apparently she is also incapable of cleaning the lights and number plates on her own car!

I was away. The school run road shares with a quarry. Hence it takes just a couple of days to get mucky when wet. Personally I'd have cleaned neither at that stage- but if I was doing one, I would do the other.

Jeeze guys. How hard do you want to make it?

Most kids wouldn't have cleaned it at all, so I don't think he deserves to be called an idiot for it. I'm sure your wife was pleased he did it for her, yet you slate him. Just seems unnecessary.

Thanks for you input. In terms if idiot things he has done this is minor and irrelevant. To the stage where it was not worth mentioning...

He does indeed. Just because he is an idiot (and he has done some really idiotic things in his time) does not mean that I do not love, care and provide for him... I am a realist though...

He is also a very pleasant genuine caring young gent, who would go out of his way for anyone. For the record.

Yes.

Quite right.

You would never see me saying hurtful things to someone like that.

5 mins at a garage jet wash and you will get the car 85% clean and remove a lot of road salt and other dross. Including cleaning your lights etc.
Not that difficult is it

Luckily he's not into cars - you won't see him on PH.

In fact he missed his last theory test because he'd lost his provisional card. Later found on his shelves in his room.

Well done, wished more coppers would do the same, and it just goes to show what a simple traffic stop can lead to.

I'm guessing that was no coincidence? biggrin

I wonder if there's a correlation between driving like a t1t and obscured number plates

How many stops in total over the week out of interest? (just trying to get some context).

What on earth is this about? Really, who cares about dirty plates apart from you and plod?
PH has really gone to the dogs.

Parking on the pavement is legal, even in some London areas such as parts of Wimbledon.

Unless there's a double yellow on the road. As I found out to my detriment.
