I reckon my neighbour got stopped for his plate being dirty. Rest of the van is filthy and the plate has been invisible for about 3 weeks now. Then one day I saw the van parked up and the plate had been wiped clean.

Most kids wouldn't have cleaned it at all, so I don't think he deserves to be called an idiot for it. I'm sure your wife was pleased he did it for her, yet you slate him. Just seems unnecessary.
Yes.

Quite right.

You would never see me saying hurtful things to someone like that.
Luckily he's not into cars - you won't see him on PH.

In fact he missed his last theory test because he'd lost his provisional card. Later found on his shelves in his room.
Sorry but I still think it's your Mrs that's the idiot.

What on earth is this about? Really, who cares about dirty plates apart from you and plod?
PH has really gone to the dogs.
I care. Had someone try breaking into my house last night. Dog alerted, and ran out onto the driveway to see him racing off in an old silver audi A6. Couldn't relay the reg number to the police because of a dirty plate. The police however were top notch, turned up within minutes but couldn't do a lot except take a statement and keep an eye out.

I was away. The school run road shares with a quarry. Hence it takes just a couple of days to get mucky when wet. Personally I'd have cleaned neither at that stage- but if I was doing one, I would do the other.

Jeeze guys. How hard do you want to make it?
I assume your wife is even more of an idiot for driving the car in such a state......
In what state? I've already said in my view it was not ready for a wipe over yet....

I stop dirty plates all the time. I carry a pack of wet wipes with me and offer them a wet wipe or a ticket. They always choose the wet wipe.

Just last week, 2 stops just to advice on number plate ended up being no insurance seizures.
Excellent biggrin

If neither were obscured , what harm has he done.........?
I did not say he had done harm. My point was merely that if the plate was in his mind dirty enough to need a wipe - the lights are also important...

It's really not worth the attention it's getting!

A couple of years ago near here there were some massive earthworks going on as part of railway reconstruction. In spite numerous complaints to the police, council and the contractors, the main road alongside was almost permanently covered in mud from construction traffic. Rather than crack down on the construction team, the local police set up an operation nearby to catch all the 'offenders' with dirty plates. The large number of hundred pound fines they were handing out for this every day made up for all the revenue lost by the speed camera teams because they couldn't read the plates... Well they had to pay for their doughnuts somehow.

Well done, wished more coppers would do the same, and it just goes to show what a simple traffic stop can lead to.
Ditto the above, good quality policing. Iron fisted enforcement of 'the book' in situations like this only breeds contempt, Fantastic excuse for some vehicle spot checks and 'education'. smile

And thankfully if you end up killing someone from driving like a tit on the roads, the police can simply use your name twined with your cars on your profile pretty much i.d. you and know you drive like a tit when your crying in a cell saying you did nothing wrong...

Wasn't there a 'famous' PHer who killed someone whilst hooning his R Type and got collared due to his posts bragging about driving like a loon?

I'd hope she kept her rear end clean with some vigorous wipes when its filthy...

The someone was a biker who wasn't killed but left with permanent life-changing injuries. 10PS was going to get collared anyway but it is not a sensible move to make any forum posts which will subequently influence a judge who decides your punishment when it all goes Pete Tong. For those on here who may be unaware of it have a read of his prison diary.
