As others have said, the best option is to carry a spare, dirtied plate in the frunk and say it fell off or whatever.
No. The best option is to have the fking plate fitted, as required by law.

The fact that you might feel it affects the aesthetics, or is a pain to fit, is neither here nor there.

Yes. No need for a dirty plate in your frunk.

I've owned two cars that had no place for a full sized plate on the front - Murcielago and Ford GT. On the Ford my dealer fabricated a place for a smaller than regulation plate, on the Lambo I didn't bother. The Ford didn't take a full size plate on the rear either. Both cars were registered in the UK without having to show any proof.

Both were officially sold in Europe, so would have been type-approved.

For example, the Aventador has a small, arrowhead bumper that looks bad with a plate fitted.
Tough tits...

Never had an issue without one, if it ever does become one I'll pay the fine. it's irrelevant in the great scheme of things and you have to be one miserable sod to pull a driver without one...just for something so minor.

I don't believe the Ford was. I know someone who did 40 odd of the SVA's.
This wouldn't have been required if they were type approved.
I thought there were about 100 headed to Europe officially? Anyway, whether they were official or not, they still needed type-approval. Manufacturers can go the IVA/SVA route, as well as EC SSTA or the full-fat ECWVTA. http://www.dft.gov.uk/vca/vehicletype/type-approva... describes the alternatives. Whoever it got registered, though, "I don't want a plate because it isn't pwetty enough" is not enshrined in law.

Edit: Ah, here y'go.

If you chose to have one or not is another discussion.
I have on some and not on others, I understand the consequence and am prepared to pay the fine.
What sort of size fine would change your mind?
Points?

Ironically, the penalties are far worse for changing the font / spacing than they are for not having one at all.
Ridiculous, isn't it?

A fine is relative to someone's income. Perhaps the authorities could offer a number plate awareness course in the future?

Well, not in an area with forward-facing speed cameras, nor if/when the police need to trace a vehicle for other reasons (potential third-party witness to some crime, etc).

Lucky criminals don't think of using motorbikes then
And of course nobody would use stolen cars or false number plates. Whilst not being completely familiar with the favourite get away car of the moment, I am sure the average criminal wouldn't be thinking along the lines of various Ferrari's etc biggrin

Because the design of some supercars makes it difficult to find somewhere to mount a number plate. They aren't designed with number plates in mind.
bks. EVERY new car sold in Europe is designed to have a front place.
Brand new (gorgeous) UK registered Aston V12 in London on Friday (Blackfriars way) with no place for front plate and non fitted or displayed. Was getting a parking ticket when I saw it.
It makes you wonder how it passed type approval, doesn't it?

Ah. Yes. JUST like that...
Not sure what all that means - brand new car - posh person (outside decent hotel) I expect owned it and no front plate. Saw it before I saw this thread. Thought I'd say looks like people choose not to fit them. Would have ruined the front of the car tbh. Mine is pugly too - (ancient E46 M3) so I might lose it .....
