OK but I'll have to look further, as above sentencing info clearly says endorsement is possible, but not obligatory. Maybe something needs updating. confused

Btw, TSRGD 2016 is written so clearly, not.

Where on the Sentencing Council website are you looking ?

The page I looked at where it lists the relevant motoring offences shows two sections for traffic sign offences - one of which is endorsable, and one of which isn't.

One place I looked was annex B of the current magistrates sentencing guidelines which doesn't differentiate. Page 191.

Anyway seeing as the issue which raised it is quite some time ago guess 2016 TSRGD version wasn't in force.

I can still imagine that someone trying to understand that mess of pottage would interpret it as I did, ie 3 points are obligatory on certain offences, not on others but could apply.

It was in the now obsolete 2002 regulations, although all signs (diagram numbers) which were endorsable were listed in just the one section.

Yes it was, which was the point.

Not all offences contrary to s36 RTA 1988 are endorsable - the TSRGD 2016 schedules list which ones are and which ones aren't.

YBJ contraventions aren't.
It also depends where the contravention took place. In Greater London (which is where the contravention mentioned by the OP occurred) YBJs have been subject to Civil Enforcement, rather than by the police, for well over a decade - http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2004/18/schedu...

AFAIK Cardiff is the only other city in E&W to have taken up the necessary powers. See these regs - http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2013/362/regula...
