He got off lightly. The police do NOT like their ruthless pursuit of minor irrelevant speed offences being interrupted.

In some cases in the past, they have arrested people for obstructing a police officer.

Possibly as these vans are mostly now manned by civilians that doesn't work any more. Can't think of any other reason they didn't do him.

Surely, he was just stopping for a rest wink not his problem it was blocking a scamera van!

If a police officer asked him to move and he refused then fair enough.

The scamera van was free to move on elsewhere...

But Cleveland Police said speed cameras save lives and blasted his antics.

Inspector Harry Simpson feels those who have hailed Mr Welford as a hero are those who don’t consider speeding a serious offence.

“It is an unpleasant sight to come across the severed limbs of victims and then take on the task of informing families of these victims that their loved one is in a serious condition in hospital – or even worse,” said Inspector Simpson.

“Those who do not agree with speed enforcement will no doubt speed themselves.

"Most members of the community do not want the safety of their children put at risk by the drivers of speeding vehicles."
Won't somebody please think of the (dismembered) children?

i am surprised he wasn't mauled by a police dog, then given 15 consecutive life sentences for multiple counts of perverting the course of justice.

I'm pretty sure there's never been an accident involving severed limbs on that road, despite what the police officer has said - and such outcomes are unlikely at the 35-40mph speed that most tickets in a 30mph limit (it is a 30 limit there) would be issued at.

The parking (of both the van and the BMW) is a tad anti-social, parking on the verge like that. The van appears to be partially blocking the footpath - I'm surprised it didn't result in multiple dead children.

This was the location - NSL begins about 100m after the camera van:

What about those who do not agree with excessive & unreasonable speed enforcement for the primary purpose of revenue generation?
