Was in OZ over xmas and just received a speeding ticket through.

Their motorway's regularly change from 100kph to 110kph and back again. Got a ticket for 110 in a 100, so. basically a £100 fine for doing 6mph over the limit on a 4 lane empty motorway.

What a bunch of thieving wkers!!

Unlucky. They are very strict on speeding over there. A slight under statement I know.

Cheers guys!

However, my son lives over there and worried that on the next visit there the SWAT team will be waiting for me at the Airport.

They are indeed a bunch of over-zealous anti-speeding Nazi's - the irony of having such a large country and open/empty roads but then having draconian policing against all motorists.

They also have double demerits over holiday periods ie when the roads are busiest and people are likely to do longer trips, this means double points/double the fine if you get caught over xmas, easter, bank hols - wkers.

Yeah, think I'll just do that - just in case. I will be back and will have to hire a car again.

If you are planning on going back I think you should just ignore it and if they find you ignore them again... you will have no issues travelling back into the country, afterall why bother paying for not paying attention.

Least you didnt do it on a holiday otherwise its doube the fine and points.

You want to be let back in the country?

Dont you have to declare anything owed to Aus?

I'd just pay it. I was caught speeding in Spain last summer (ticket in the post to home in the UK). My Dad was telling me basically f**k them, don't pay it etc. I paid, why shouldn't I, I was speeding, I was banged to rights and I wanted to go back there, so I just paid.

Speaking as someone who lived in Australia for a while: PAY IT.

Whilst they might not decide to tag you upon entering the country they might well and have the technology to do it, too.

Before you do that, just do a quick google. It used to be the case, in Victoria at least, that you could write to plod and plead for forgiveness when you were only a little bit over the speed limit. I only know this because I got done in September last year on the Great Ocean Road for 10km/h over and did some digging. Wasn't much help, Victoria has stopped doing it, at the end of 2015, but other states might have something similar still in place.

This was it for reference

ETA Also, my fine was 311AUD. Or nigh on 200quid, so you're luckier there smile

but its ok for 50 tonne lorries to drive at 110 2 feet from your rear bumper with ZERO chance of being able to stop

police are every where as well looking for speeders ...

If you have to go back I would pay, I owe a speeding fine from a few years back, but will never be going back again. Thankfully there is always someone willing to take my place on any australian projects. For some reason some people love the place. I would rather gnaw my own legs off than return there.

To add some balance, I posted in this thread back in 2010, with 6 outstanding tickets

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=904...

Last entered Australia in Sept 2014 for a 2 week holiday and nothing was said.
