Problem with local council
Discussion
Got to love the amazing PH double standards here.
Someone parks a shed of a van outside your house, blocking your light / view and making it difficult for you to park yourself - 'suck it up, you don't own the road'.
Council stick a container on council land, where it's not even visible from the property... 'I'd be complaining about that'.

Clearly there are some people here who don't care about living in an attractive location but many of us do. Curiously the council get involved in maintaining an attractive environment in every planning application yet in this instance they don't seem to care.Someone parks a shed of a van outside your house, blocking your light / view and making it difficult for you to park yourself - 'suck it up, you don't own the road'.

It's not exactly majestic sweeping unspoiled views of a national park and mountains, is it?
Massive NIMBY.

I understand how it's hard for you to be dispassionate, too - but that is not actually on your property, not actually impinging on your view, and the view isn't exactly a selling feature of the property in the first place.

Like I already said, I sympathise with your position.

So if I lived somewhere with rolling hills and beautiful views it would be a problem ?. I think that's a little unfair I didn't buy a house next door to a industrial estate and I don't think its suitable to be placed in a residential area. Plus it'll be covered in graffiti as soon as the weather improves
Good for hitting/kicking balls against. This is outrageous and is very definitely a problem. Visible from many surrounding properties. It's a shipping container for goodness sake. On a housing estate.Pothole said:
It's not a view of anything from the OP's house. He can't see it unless he makes the effort to walk round to do so.
Massive NIMBY.
Not only are you a internet hard man but you even need to hide behind someone else doing it.Massive NIMBY.
Oh and 23k posts do you cry yourself to sleep at night wondering what the touch of a warm woman feels like ?
If it genuinely is an eyesore the earlier suggestion of bamboo is a good one. It fills spaces rapidly, and can grow 14 foot tall, can be chopped back to thin out easily too. We have some to screen our rear driveway from the garden. Just a word of warning, if you plant bury concrete (old paving slabs of ebay are ideal) at least a foot and a half deep, as if not the roots shall spread, and you'll end up with a jungle of them (not kidding!) that a panda would be happy to call home in no time at all.

Must be a nice area as otherwise it would be vandalised and graffiti'd by now (along with the contents stolen).
You would have valid reasons for removal if it were in a rough neighbourhood as during the day kids kicking football would ruin your right to quiet enjoyment and at night people would piss up the side of it and smash bottles/leave needles there after using which would be real problems, as it is atm with no anti-social behaviour it's probably not going to be removed, it just looks a bit council having a shipping container next to your house.

Yes the suggestion of Bamboo is a good one. I hadn't considered having something planted around it. If I can't get it moved I think that would definitely ease the situation a little. untakenname said:
