Hit and Run Advice
Discussion
My beloved 2008 Ceed Diesel got hit while parked on the Road outside my House back in the Summer.
Young Lad driving too fast and attempted to pull into a space behind my Car. In the process caught the rear corner of my Bumper.
Very loud bang and what looked like a big scrape.
T-Cut a few Weeks later. It was mostly paint from his Car but a few scrapes and a bit of cracking to my paint.
I was in the front Garden at the time. He stopped for a few seconds and then drove off before I got to him.
I got a good look at his Reg and reported to the Police but didn't hear anything back from them.
Fast forward 6 Months
He has admitted it and been disqualified for 6 Months and Fined about £300.
It is a 2008 Kia Ceed Diesel with 130K
17K/Year Private Miles and reading far too many Forums about self-destructing Dieses got me tempted by the 7 Year Warranty.
Bought at 2 Years old and have covered 110K. A couple of very minor fixes under warranty at 6 Years old.
Not the most exciting of Cars but has done exactly what I needed.
My Mileage has very recently dropped to about 8K, so the Ceed will be going in favour of something Petrol.
The Turbo started whistling about a Year ago. Mechanic says it is only very slight bearing wear and to leave it. It won't be worth much when I sell or PX.
I have not informed my Insurance Company about the bump.
My plan was to fix at my cost or just leave it if nothing happened with the Police.
I am annoyed that he didn't stop. It would have been a better result for both of us if he had.
Is it worth pursuing him to get the Bumper fixed?

So you were unhappy that this lad decided not to comply with his obligations to stop and leave his details at the scene of an accident, or to report an accident to the Police within a 24hour period, but you're quite happy not to comply with your obligation to report an accident to your insurance company, as started in your legally binding contract? My plan was to fix at my cost or just leave it if nothing happened with the Police.

£100-£200 damage on a low value Car is hardly worth putting through my Insurance and potentially costing me in future Premiums or Excess is it?
Legalities apart it's plain Common Sense. The same would have applied if he had stopped.
The advice from the other two Posters is right.
Leave it or fix at my own cost.
If he was insured then persue his insurer for your damage. They'll probably write off your car due to the cost of the repairs - nice cash settlement to put towards a newer/nicer car. Bonus being the scrote that tried to get away with driving off without repercussion will have a claim on his record, a suitably loaded premium and also lose 2 years no claim bonus if he has any to start with.
I would also ring your insurer and apologise for not notifying them of the incident. Tell them about it say the other driver has been convicted and you are just informing them NOT making any claim. Just say you hadn't realised until now it was your duty to tell them. They won't be surprised and very unlikely to be detrimental to your premium.
