Well of course there is an awful lot more to it than "you repaired my machine 5 years ago and now I'm rejecting it". There is burden of proof, expected life of the appliance and this "six year" figure is far from a given and generally unlikely.
But then, posting "You've got 6 years to reject it" sounds far more exciting smile
This.

People make it sound like claiming under SOGA or whatever it's called now is some kind of magical easy win. It isn't that simple and depending on the manufacturer will require a non-trivial amount of work, and expense (engineers report) that you might not be able to claim back.

I had a big bun fight with a retailer on behalf of a work colleague on a laptop whose screen failed completely after 2 years. There was a lot of frustrating back and forth with them which went cold because when she sent the laptop to them for inspection they claimed (and provided photographs) that it was damaged when they received it, which she couldn't disprove as she hadn't thought to take photos of it before it was sent off (not that they would necessarily be proof of anything). In the end by some twist of fate they posted it back to her - to an address she no longer lived at - and the courier must've just left it outside because the signature was "On Porch" - so they had no choice but to refund her.

What makes you think you have a contract with the manufacturer? What did you give the manufacturer?
They provided me with a new machine of different make and model.

This nullified my currys extended warranty and they offered a new 12 month manufacturer warranty with this machine.

I don't think it would change anything under SOGA.

You had a faulty machine, repaired numerous times and replaced with a similar model which continues to experience faults of the same nature.

That may be so, however they haven't sold you anything. There is no sale to roll back on between you and the manufacturer.

We had a Beaumatic washing machine that kept going for 12 years until the main bearing leaked - that was a good machine. The replacement Hoover machine (which was the same as a Beaumatic model, just a case of badge engineering) was only 1 year and 1 day old when the door release handle snapped. My Wife is savvy enough to wait for the red light before pulling handle etc, so I knew it hadn't been mishandled (no pun intended). When I contacted Hoover they said, 'your warranty has expired' to which I said "it has a 5 year parts warranty - it says so on the sticker on the front". 'In that case we can supply the part, it is £70 +VAT for you to fit, or we can fit (a free) part for £130 +VAT'. Me "What £70 for a little plastic handle?" H 'It's £70 for the whole door, you can't just buy the handle' I asked for the data on how many duty cycles/expected life for the handle in domestic use, but they refused to provide the info or budge on their liability. So I got a similar handle off a popular auction site and enlarge the hinge pin hole from 3.5 to 4.2mm and fitted it within 40 minutes. I again asked them for parts/an answer and met the brick wall, so I told the guy "I've fixed it for £2.95, I trust you enjoy your job, because given your customer service attitude your company won't last long if word gets around" mad I'm just thankful it wasn't a major problem, otherwise it woould have been a long fight.

I bought a Hotpoint condenser tumble dryer about 18 months ago through Costco online.

The drive belt was replaced about 6 months ago under warranty and then the fire recall thing came up after I initially asked when I bought it was it an affected unit. They said it wasn't so I went ahead buying it.

They recently extended the amount of units that were affected and mine was one and was given the choice of a repair or new machine for £99.

I decided to ring Costco and reject the unit and they happily collected the unit and refunded me all the money without question.

I've bought a more expensive Samsung one now as I have lost confidence with hotpoint.

They're both the same make aren't they?

I'd have been very unhappy about losing the extra warranty.

I can't think what to suggest here if Hotpoint pull the shutters down. It's the sort of case that the consumer help pages of newspapers used to be able to cut through, but I'm not sure they still exist these days.

Get it repaired again under warranty and sell it. Buy another make that doesn't suffer from the float problem. Life is too short to get into a wrangle of who is responsible on a machine that is clearly unsuitable for your needs.
This.

Just buy a different make and write it off to experience.

Life's too short.

Hmm... I have to say "where is the spirit in that", are we all just expected to give in to the large companies treading all over us? Some Dunkirk Spirit is called for! Dig your heals in and fight your corner.

11,000 men died at Dunkirk. That might have been worth it given that many thousands more were rescued. This is about a couple of hundred quid machine and the effort to get a resolution will far outweigh the cost of taking the hit and moving on.

To be honest I think the safety issues around a couple brands would be enough for me to just bin it and buy a better brand that does give a monkey for their customers.

What price for the safety of your family, the whole hotpoint/whirlpool situation is just a disgrace. I for one would not touch their brands ever again.

Both hotpoint indesit.

They replaced my indesit with a hotpoint upgrade but it just cosmetic as they are the same basic machines. Got an upgrade from 7kg to 8kg. I have about 16 months of the 3 year extend warranty so lost 4 months but they said that's why they offered the more expensive 8kg machine which was selling for about £60 more.

They attended replaced some parts can't get the water light to trigger. Have ordered a new pcb main board section to if thats it, but the engineer was stumped.

He said they won't refund or replace the machine once you have had it more than a month. He has known people with multi-able issues in first few months who they refused to do anything but keep repairing the machine.

machine won't make metallic sounds for him but he was running empty. Keep a nice wet load for next time.

I am not overloading as wash machine is only 7kg not 8kg.

Update customer service manager contacted me and apologised for my issues with the dryers.

After 2 visits the machine seemed to be working.

However the manager Offerd for me to pick a different model for replacement of my choice. Choose a nicer model and that came first thing this morning plus I got with 2 year warranty.

Can't fault Chris and thank you very much for resolving.

I know hotpoint can make good appliances as had two very good reliable washing machines with no issues.

My first non vented indesit dryer lasted 7 years with only 1 bearing shaft and belt replacement.

It was still working when we switched to consdesing.
