I was driving northbound on the M11 today, approaching Duxford (about a mile before where the A505 crosses over the M11 (bridge). Looked down at my sat nav and it was reading 50, I was doing 70! I didn't see any signs indicating 50 (although I may have seen a sign saying roadworks end, I'm not sure) or that the national speed limit had began again by the time my sat nav changed back to being 70. It didn't seem like I was leaving other traffic behind either.

Questions are as follows: is there a temporary speed limit of 50 on the M11 in that general area, are there any speed cameras in that general area, etc.

Quite worried!

How old are the map updates on your Sat-nav? Often the roadworks reductions are from years ago.

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think it relies on the map updates. It's a built in Mercedes sat nav on the work's pool car, which brings up the speed limit on the sat nav and the instrument cluster. Whether or not that uses the phone's internet connection or the traffic sign assist I don't know. Mercedes do do a traffic sign assist option which brings up the speed limits on the instrument cluster. This is included in the driver assist package. If it does have that feature, it apparently uses a camera to read signs. But I didn't see any except for one section where the speed limit changes from 70, to 50, to 40 and back to 70 again (and I stuck to those speed limits).

Give over relying on your satnav and use your eyes more, in fact if you do anything wrong / illegal on the roads and say to the police officer "I was only following the instructions of my satnav" then you 'eave yourself open for at least careless driving, police hate that excuse.

I wasn't relying on my sat nav, that's the point. I looked down to check my ETA and saw the 50 circle - my eyes were on the road but I didn't see any sign. I'd slowed down some time back for a variable speed limit (I came off the M25 onto the M11) and slowed down again when it went from a 70, to 50, to 40 as above. I don't know if the info on the sat nav was wrong, as it was saying it was a 50, and I didn't see a sign - that's the whole purpose of my question.

There was a temp restriction there a few weeks ago....no reason for it, just...there.
