Is there any recourse regarding noise level of recreational vehicles?

The household behind me have been hammering quad bikes for over four hours now. It's doing my fking head in.

Behind my house is a field, then some woodlands, then one almighty massive house with a lot of land... So it's private land.

Today the noise of quad bikes has been buzzing since noon. They are seriously loud. A few neighbours have also exclaimed their disappointment in what are very anti-social noise levels.

In essence, my question is, have I got an official route to follow?

And yes, a neighbour has asked them to stop but got told to 'fk off'...

Many thanks in advance

David smile

PS - I can't move because, apart from this noise, I love where I live, my mum is a few doors down so I can look after her, and I'm mortgaged up to hilt hehe

I actually rejoiced about an hour ago because it sounded like one of them (there's two) chucked a conrod but no such luck.

They are beeping their fking horns as they blat up and down. grumpy

In my experience most people (other than farmers) who own these king of machines are anti social types, like lottery lout Michael Carroll, they get great pleasure out of making as much noise as possible.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fuddy duddy, we all like to have a bit of fun, (I used to take the baffles out of my Honda 90 when I was sixteen to make it sound like a Manx Norton), but there is a limit...biggrin

Get on to your council a.s.a.p. They will note your complaint, ask you to log incidents and may provide sound monitoring equipment to measure the noise. It helps if your neighbours also lodge complaints.

I think you should do this South Korean style.

Hire a massive wall of PA speakers and put them along the edge of your land closest to the annoying tw4ts, wait until the earliest time on a Sunday morning that the council permit noise..... then crank them up to their loudest volume with some nice death metal. If they seem to enjoy it, just change it to a Britney/Miley megamix. Continue until they get the message.

You need to get somebody to complain. Otherwise they will simply say to themselves "well, nobody complained, so it's obviously not a problem".The only drawback is whoever complains will be suspect number one when direct action is taken as a result of the complaint being ignored. So allow for that.

What would you need to go through an engine block of a quad? .50?

Perhaps they weren't suggesting aiming at the engine.

The question is:- Is this a one off? or is it an on-going, every day/every week activity?

FFS!! Started again at 9:30 this morning... I think my neighbour, recently retired police Sargent is wandering around for a word.

Thank you for all the replies... And no I've never fired a rifle so I'd image I'm a rubbish shot... But maybe I should start practicing. smile

Just be patient OP, soon enough they'll either get bored or injured and give up. Generally people that take the piss on Quads will end up with one landing on them

I believe these types of situations are ones where you need to keep a diary of when and how long it went on for and once you have a bit of history to it all the council noise abatement people may take some action.
