The first average speed camera:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.8461139,-0.62817...

The second average speed camera:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.8606128,-0.62936...

The van driver undertook you as you slowed down for the second camera, because he knew how average speed cameras work.
Always wanted to "meet" someone who slowed down for average speed cameras, and here you are! Maybe this lesson will drive home the fact that they are measuring your average speed between the cameras, not your speed at the camera.

It does rather seem the OP has misunderstood the type of camera, however he does mention being over road markings and there aren't any in the google shots linked, nor would you expect there to be in an average speed zone - what road markings is he referring to as no fixed camera site is present? Are we looking at the wrong camera site on Google!

Over to you OP....

The remnants of the old GATSO markings are still visible just before Gt Ponton village northbound and southbound but those GATSOs were removed years ago. There are no fixed GATSO-style cameras along there now, only the recently installed SPECS cams.

Aha - that would be it then! Looks like the OP has misunderstood average speed zones - not surprising he hasn't been back to comment!!

There used to be one southbound just at the brow of the hill where the slip road from Grantham joins and the northbound one was in the bottom of the dip just before the village. The paint markings received the HA's usual half-arsed job at burning them away but they're still pretty evident on the road surface.

He's probably out trying to get some valium for the driver awareness course, I pity him.
