Came across this in Evo magazine.

[Readers living in Scotland may have to watch their backs as local police are targeting non-standard exhausts. Even though a system might well meet all emissions regulations, FPN's have been served if an increase in noise is registered. One understandably angry Subaru owner has even had his PPP exhaust declaired 'illegal'. We'll keep you posted.]

And then this related thread on Scooby Net.

The legal implications for anyone with a non standard exhaust seem rather worrying. Also this apparent change in the rules has recieved little or no publicity yet it could effect an awfull lot of people, if you have a Tubi equipped Diablo or Nova with a bean can exhaust you too could be under scrutiny of the law.

What are your views ?

Ahhhh dear me.

The original poster alleges that the Scotplod exercised their powers under Antisocial Behaviour etc. (Scotland) Act 2004

http://tinyurl.com/7jb9m

which states illegal under that Act to alter exhaust etc..

Sorry, but I can find no reference anywhere to noise from exhausts under that Act. There is the similar power to England in relation to noise from premises and also seizing vehicles that have been driven without due care/offroaded and likely to cause alarm, distress etc.

Sounds as if they did invoke their powers in relation to vehicle noise under Con and Use Regs with a noise meter and for some reason it failed. Now why is another matter?????

heh, they'd have to take me to court to get my money.

If anything ever goes wrong with my exhaust system, those front cats are coming out, and balls to anybody who doesn't like it.

I can understand people complaining about loud stereos and beancan exhausts though.

The thing is, what constitutes noise is entirely down to personal opinion.

I have a concern, because my car is *seriously* loud.
