Based on driving legally at over 140 mph on the German autobahn, I can tell you that above 120 mph it becomes like a video game. You have to be looking so far ahead that as thing come closer, they flash past in your peripheral vision. I felt comfortable up to about 120 mph, but above that, I felt like the smallest error and we'd be dying in a fore ball. Some of that was down to the cars aerodynamics and some down to how the world flashed past.

I was passed last night on the M62, by a mk4 astra van doing maybe 100 mph on my left. I was doing 70 in the outside lane (lane 4) and started to move left as I saw him in my mirror, but he'd already committed to an undertake, he didn't slow, just went straight into lane 2, went between 2 cars doing about 50 and 65 mph respectively, before heading into lane 1, which became the slip road for Warrington. To say I was surprised at how quickly he appeared looming down on me, from.being just a mere spec, is an understatement. Wasn't expecting it with my temp.sensor showing minus 2.
200 mph on any road might be temping fate.
Pissed or drug driver (I.e. coke) probably.

I'd love to know if that's true? Purely as I lived up the road from there until a few months ago!

Ah man, that's the icing on the cake.

I'm loving all the handwringing on this thread. It didn't look especially sketchy to me, but there's probs not that many of us on here who have got close to that speed. I had 17 attempts at 200 in one trip, didn't manage it, but mid 190's was ok........ filming it though. FFS.

I've got to laugh at some of the reactions to 200 mph on here. Can you imagine the reaction of some of the posters on here if we have another war and they're told they have to go and fight! " But has anyone checked the brakes and tyres on the tank ? " laugh

And keeping the tank maintenance up to date and all checks done is critical for it to remain operational and keep you alive...

I've done some silly things on the road in the past, but at those sort of speeds it was never as you describe for me, even some fast and furious style driving through traffic didn't feel that risky at the time. Thought the cars involved were all very capable of those elevated speeds so perhaps that is the difference.

If they give me a tank with tyres, I'm asking for a proper one.

Well. It wont happen. But, if it did...

As the A6 is already limited to mid 140's, I'd imagine they'd just do what this guy did and take it off.
all new cars from 2022 are going to be limited by gps to the posted limit

That’s down to your perception of risk, not that it wasn’t risky.

Omega MV6 with 180 K miles on the clock, if that makes any difference.
I think my own brain, needs to compute things faster than it does though.

Same. Going fast isn't for everyone.

Possibly one of the best tanks of its time had rubber tyres on the steel wheels.

Indeed. Every moron who ends up killing himself or others has underestimated the risk.

Possibly so, when we pulled off at a junction the driver of the Hurracan informed me that he was on his way to get a screw removed from his front tyre... I was dumbstruck.

These days I am much more sedate, the risk vs reward is now a very different equation though the car and capability remains the same.

I had an MV6 that was totally stable at >140mph on the Isle of Man where there's a lot more to hit than an autobahn. Something was wrong with yours.

I had a V6 Omega too; very stable and a great Autobahnstormer.
