The car is the least of the problems in that video! Clearly very well engineered as it needs sod-all control to keep it pointing the right way at that speed. Amazing really, when you look at an F40 or late-80s supercar trying to crack the double ton it looks like it's pant-sttingly tricky.
Really? confused

This guy made it look pretty easy back in the day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dshb4_cZoTM
I remember watching that video when it was first released, some Japanese multi-millionaire who had decked his Ferrari F40 out with a load of on-board cameras (in the days before dash cams were available). Very impressive footage and no brakey babies or fluffy animals died in the process. I can't remember the outcome but plod were trying to convict him based on his own video evidence, though not sure whether they succeeded. Seem to think he later went on to sell the videos to interested customers.

Have watched quite a few high speed videos on Youtube, some of which beggar belief, this one certainly demonstrates how sure footed the Audi RS6 is at high speeds, no wonder the 4 door models are top of the list for being stolen.

That’s pretty much my view. I did 175mph on an autobahn and enjoyed it. Probably won’t do it ever again though.
Nice! What motor?

I did indicated 162 (limiter) in my M135i. It felt very stable! When it's remapped and limiter removal I'd aim for 180 :-)
Ferrari 430 Spider with the top down. It was a dry clear Sunday so the trucks were absent, just a nice clear ribbon of empty autobahn. I remember glancing towards the passenger seat but Mrs BC had gone??? She was hiding in the footwell.

After a while I noticed a car behind me flashing his lights. I pulled in and was overtaken by a Porsche Turbo. I had some power left but the yellow streak running down my back won the day.

I'd say that's plenty fast with the roof down!!!

Indeed it was. I won’t be doing that speed again any time soon.

My TVR is apparently capable of similar but beyond about 110mph it feels ready to take off.

I can vouch for that as a multiple previous TVR owner. The company (bless 'em) didn't have the funds for wind tunnels, as you approach top speed in a Cerbera, the front starts to 'float' (so I'm told wink ). Scary.

Probably gonna get some stick on this outraged filled thread.
But that F40 sounds like a 4cyl eurobox rofl

I did 160 once and was frankly terrified. I also found that tanking along at anything above 120mph for hours on end is knackering, I usually plod along around 100 or so.

Yeah a mate of mine had an indicated 174 out of a Cerbera and got a side-wind - serious brown trouser time apparently.

shows how far things have come, you used to need a stripped out hypercar to hit 200mph on the public road, now a 3 tonne dog carrier will do it lol

Totally braindead moron. The rest of the car inc brakes and tyres wouldn't have even been up to the job.
Selfish act putting others at risk for the sake of bragging rights to his likely equally thick mates..
Ever driven on an autobahn?
won't someone please think of the children!

seriously in this country it does seem pretty daft, filming yourself moreso then making it public..... that said the M-way does seem quite empty
It's a motorway where no one expects you to be doing over 70mph.

At high speeds an empty motorway can change in seconds.

At high speed other drivers movements can affect your concentration.

The road surface on many British motorways isn't comparable to many a Autobahn.

You don't have experience of driving at such speeds regularly.

Whilst overtaking a lorry and a car I might decide to move out into the fast lane. What will happen if you are closing on me suddenly? Would you have a few seconds of freeze?

If you are used to driving at high speeds around the British roads you'll know that people do not react how you'd like them to and they will often pull out without any rhyme or reason.

Stick to the speed limits or the track. Keep the Autobahn argument for travel in Germany

A few points here:

- the road surfaces on the Autobahanen are not all pristine, quite a lot of our m-way surfaces are very good. Without travelling that stretch we don't what it's like.
- there is no fast lane
- the road was virtually empty
- you're making an assumption about how regularly the first guy travels (way) over the speed limit
- being pedantic most people travel over 70 on the m-way (I do get your point though)

I'm making assumptions on how regularly he presses an accelerator?

He was allover the road and anyone who films a speedo paints a story for me.

Did he carry out a sighting lap? Look for any truck liner/shredded tyre/debris in the carriageways first?

Did he know who was coming off those unsighted sliproads?

The M23 has an average road surface. Not new overall but not aged badly. It's camber, dip/bends etc that can catch the unwary though. A twitch can magnify can't it.

When you drive over a road at the legal limit it can feel smooth. Drive over the same surface at twice+ that speed and you suddenly find there is a slight undulation in the surface that magnifies massively causing a car to sink into it's suspension etc. It's not perceptable at normal speeds but it feels like a canyon higher up. Even on a decent set up it can still cause an involuntary twitch of your hand at the wheel or momentary freeze

I hit 175 (on the Speedo) in my c63 on my way back from Manchester on the m61. Was a summer Sunday evening very minimal traffic saw a long clear straight thought I’d see what it could do, got up to that and straight back down to my 75 cruise so 30 seconds total acceleration? Obviously very illegal if caught but dangerous? My actual surprise was how it didn’t seem that fast other than the white lines flicking past. The fastest iv ever felt was at college in my friends ancient fiat pander we managed 100mph downhill and the fabric roof started to lift off and I had to hold it down until we reached the magical ton! laugh
