Just been road raged!
Discussion
Hi all
Went out for a spin in my Boxster with Mrs Ed22 this afternoon. Pulled up to a roundabout. Heard someone beeping behind me, so I looked in the rear view mirror; there's an absolutely furious looking van driver giving me the 'tosser' sign.
Kind of surprised as I hadn't cut him up, been speeding or doing anything much really; just enjoying the sun and the new jamiroquai album....
Van door opens and out spills this mad looking bloke, shouting 'you f:censored:ing w:censored:ker' and starts to advance on me. He's 45ish and looks like a fight is not an unusual occurence.
Now obviously at this stage Ed22 would like to report to fellow PHers that I hopped out, said something along the lines of 'ah see YOU jimmy' and scared him off....
....However, in real life Ed22 ain't that hard, was a bit concerned about his Mrs, and to be honest, very confused at how enraged this bloke was. In other words yes I was crapping myself!
So I thought I'd go round the roundabout rapidly a couple of times to see if he was going to follow.
He did. Kind of amusing for a moment watching the van try to handle the lateral g's but then I got a bit concerned that he'd careen off the road and hurt someone. So I accelerated off to go to a mates house nearby.
Amazingly, just after we pulled at at said house, he drove past slowly (no idea how he'd found us as I wasn't hanging around) but then continued on his way.
Wasn't the best way to finish off an otherwise pleasant afternoon though, tbh.
So, I'm kind of interested in peoples views on this
- obviuosly hard to say but do you reckon this was a reaction due to the car? I mean, it is only a boxster...... what must it be like having a fezza??
- can he track the numberplate to the address? MrsEd22 very concerned about this, despite my assurances that this isn't possible.
From my point of view, if he was going to do anything further, he'd have got out when he saw us at my mates house.
cheers

he can only track the #plate if his old bill, or got mates who are old bill and can use the NPC, or I presume car dealers have a facility to check a cars history and its previous owners..so the chances of him being a copper, or having access to any of the above is slim, as he sounds like an arse.
Dont worry about it. The worlds full of cretins you just happened to meet one of them today.

I'd casually report it to your local BiB.
As Tabs says - it would have helped to get his number, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.
But I'd still report it - I don't know if they'd do anything (unlikely - as you've got no-one to report).
You never know what might come back on you.

You have a Porsche. Dwong's like that tosser don't. They get all envious about it, because clearly its an indication of how fabulously well endowed, powerful, and successfull with the ladies you are. (As clearly indicated by the presence of Mrs ed22 in the vehicle at the time.) Their frustration at their own shortcomings in both that department and, of course, their small brain leads to an overload...which causes them to talk shit for a while.
Fear not. Your life is a million times better than that tosspot's.

I find it very hard to subscribe to your assessment Don.
A perfect afternoon by all accounts, much traffic and then WHAM. Vanman goes ballistic.
WHY?
Even follows for some time and searches.
WHY?
Is this normal behaviour amongst drivers in Herts?
With respect E22 is there something your not telling us?

Understandable, DVD. Any right-thinking rational and decent person, like yourself, would think these w*nkers actually need some "excuse" to let their pea-brains go into emotional overload and to start talking with their testicles instead of their heads.
But they don't.
Trust me.
I drive a bright Guard's Red Boxster S and I have simply stopped using it to go certain places and at certain times. I now use it almost exclusively for track days and rural journeys and when I know I will be parking it somewhere safe.
Some people seem to go ballistic at the mere sight of the car. I've been yelled at. Coffee beaned. You name it.
I used to size up overtakes based on whether or not they were technically feasible. Now I size them up based on the aforementioned but also on whether or not I reckon the little old lady in front is likely to try and run me off the road! Its happened.
I try monumentally hard to avoid giving anyone the slightest reason to consider my driving anything other than totally considerate - why? - because even then there are plenty of knobbers out there who want to take exception merely to my existence.
Sorry, DVD, but this is the truth. Ed need have done nothing wrong at all for this behaviour. The car is quite enough by itself.

I can support this being a cab driver and seeing how my fares react at the the site of a "Flash Motor" with comments of "Look at that flash Git" or if there is nice car Broken down "Serves themselves right".
Then the other day, i have 2 male passengers in the back of my black cab and ime driving down a dual carriageway when some guy minding his own buiseness in a Red slightly modded Fiesta drives by in the next lane, these two guys instantly react to the fiesta driver calling him a w*nker and making signs at him and slagging the guy off ................baffling behaviour??
The best strategy is a short detour, driving slowly both so that he can follow easily, and so that you can note his reg mark, to park outside the local nick.
If he has a grievance, he can air it. He won't try anything physical. And if he drives off, you can pop in and report the incident. Also, you haven't compromised your private address.

Guy ist an idiot... but Liebchen I would not have driven to mate's house - I would have driven to nearest building mit "POLICE" written on door und made most obvious show of jotting reg number und walking into cop shop!
That ist assuming you find one which ist actually open at weekend ...
Failing that - would have heaed to nearest NSL road known to be ohne scammer und "tested my car" to next exit und looped back to where I was heading at more sedate speed.

It's the behaviour of someone who has experienced a lifetime of losing and sadly there seem to be a lot of them in the UK.
You're showing them, by virtue of the car you drive (shallow criteria though that is to make a judgement) that they're a failure and that you're stepping out of line beyond their grey, dull narrow channel.
It happens a lot in Australia too, where you are definitely not allowed to step out of line and we all know the ancestry of many of them...

Hi DVD
Something I'm not telling you? No. Absolutely not; thats why I was so surprised. If I'd been driving like an arse then I'd have understood.
It was actually not far from Stevenage!

Mm, thought about that at the time. I know the town in question very well and there were about 3 sets of traffic lights between me and the station.... didn't really want to have to run a red if muppet features had pulled up behind me...
Still, what is it with these people?? Totally fail to understand....

Tell me about it,i had some Lunatic Bird standing on the front bumper of my cab and slapping the bonnet and going hysterical at 2 am this morning...ok alcohol was involved but normally dig a bit deeper and theres something they are not happy about in their lives so they take it out on the nearest target.
Anger is definitely on the increase in society...and there are a whole load of reasons, too many and varied to list here.
...but it's not good enough...and the police don't take the little stuff seriously anymore.
Aus is the same, by the sounds of it. USA is worse. Europe has high unemployment with the consequent issues that brings...does anyone think maybe this "capitalism" thing has a few weaknesses?!?
