Chop in your car for a Boxster or 996 Cab. Drive it around just as you do your current motor for a bit.

But why would I chop in a small 2 seater open top sports car for another small 2 seater open top sports car?

With respect. That is my point. Your (lovely!) little two seater sports car does not attract the same sort of behaviour. A good friend of mine has a MX5 and I travel in it fairly regularly.

There is no comparison in how its driver gets treated on the road.

Whilst we are still human there will be lovely people and there will be knobheads. You met a knobhead. Nice aren't they?

Seems to me there's a case for eugenics after all...

Ed22, Don, yep, been there , seen it, had it done to me!
Some while ago now, but from the desciption of your encounter Ed, could even have been the seen brainless (and I do mean brainless) fcking tw@t.
I also have no doubt that it wasn't the same though, just a clone from the same sess pool.
As for justification Ed, there isn't one, to my mind. You called it exactly right in the topic title, road rage, that's it.
DVD, you're first thought, automatically putting the suspicion on Ed is sad but predictable, and also undeserved.
I would give Ed an unconditional "benefit of the doubt" given the real world experience of having seen and experienced such irrational behaviour by more than one PHer here.

My 0.02 worth.

Yep. Made me seriously consider starting Boxing; if I'd been at a red light with some cars ahead of me I hate to think what would have happened.

Ist because for some reason - modern way of life creates intolerance und impatience.

Ist because as apache pointed out - additives in certain foods affect the body - we are what we eat - und chemicals inter-react mit the bod's biochemicals und these chemical affect the delicate chemicals which control nervous system und brain,. I could go off at tangent very easily und write an essay on the subject - but ist not appropriate. There are number of books und so on on subject which people can look at und read for selves if they want to.

Ist perhaps he was on a prescription drug - legal drugs as well as illegal drugs affect mood und body just as much as the E additives in food.

Ist because he cannot afford such a car und has dead end job und ist very frustrated as society says he ist failure because he ist vocationally gifted und not academically gifted

Ist because we have created a society which craves fame und fortune und an "egoistic" lifestyle ...

Ist because of diet of adverts und so was as lieber Triple Dave suggests - also creates a sense of failure in some

Ist because people are never satisfied mit their lot in life und want what the other man has - even to point of stealing or being a prat as in this case.

But one would have to be pyschiatrist or pyschologist to really answer your question - und I am merely a "toppest" scientist in lab

Anger is definitely on the increase in society...and there are a whole load of reasons, too many and varied to list here.

One of the main culprits is the chemicals we call food these days, most of it has enough e numbers to get you climbing the curtains after one ding of the microwave, and the less well off eat the more chemically enhanced......

Probably one of the most important posts EVER on PH methinks..

Do you really think things are more rage-ridden than they were?

I mean when did you last get in your longboat and go raping and pillaging on a Saturday night?

Some of us had legionnaires to do that for us. When we wanted to go and see barbarity, we went to the coliseum to watch christians!

Liebchen - by all accounts we have such people doing this on a drink fuelled rage binge most Saturdays. Usually they gob all over the BiB as well ... ud knock off their helmets before into them...

I think now that yoga should be made compulsory .. ist teaching how to breathe calmly und the minute of slow breathing ist very calming. Und of course has a little bonus - they might just get locked in a lotus position

Yeah... my take on the van man's thought processes is something like this:

1) There goes a bloke in an expensive car that costs 2-3 years' wages for me
2) But he's driving it like a Metro
3) Therefore he might just as well have bought a Metro
4) Therefore he's only got a Porsche in order to show off how much money he's got
5) Therefore he's a tosser

...further incited by the fact that (4) was true of many of the red-braces brigade in the 80s which helped Porsche's sales but also gave the 911 a reputation as a tosser's car (depending on how old he was).

Perhaps you should try driving like a hooligan

And have some old dear or duffer report you to the police?!?

Catch-22, I'm afraid...we live in a country where people are envious of others' successes, and cars are the most overt symbol of success...if you drive it like you stole it, then you either did or you're "an irresponsible hooligan who should be taken off the roads", but if you drive sensibly then "you're just showing off your money"!

It's rather sad really...even in America, where social divides are greater than in the UK, the general response to a nice car is "nice car, he must've done well for himself, good for him!"...in the UK, it's envy and resentment!
