Got "lasered" on a clear day coming down a hill 300 yards before coming onto a dual carriageway (50 limit).
I was setting my cruise control focusing on the impending carriageway

I've been told I'll be summonsed but I'd like to be sure that I was doing 50mph - can I get a copy of this laser read out or are they videoed?

Any advice greatfully received

Unless it was a mobile van I doubt if it would be on video ..... and there is no print out.

The officer would normally tell you what speed the laser recorded, what distance it was recorded at + show you the reading.

Technically, of course speed should only start to increase when into the 50 limit, but it sounds like one of the common places where laser traps or scamvans are often set - downhill section in an artificially low speed limit, increased speed limit ahead as they are great for revenue. Why not set up on the other side of the carriageway and catch those not moderating their speed driving up the hill after entering the 30 zone, since they present as much or greater threat if they don't slow down (according to the authorities) - answers on a postcard to Revenue-R-Us

Probably get 3 points and £100 fine if you have a good defence and don't represent yourself. This is based on a freind's experience for this speed in a built up area. I presume the officer pulled you over at the time of offence? As it has been said, this is a disgusting way of generating revenue. All the best.

cant see why a fpn wasnt offered for this alleged offence? were you offered it, and turned it down for a day in court?

or were you going 30 mph over the limit and told you were not eligable for a fpn?

bit more info might help...

what's a fpn? I don't think the officer mentioned this.

I was going 20mph over the limit but I'm sure I wasn't going this fast -I can't have been that's why I wanted to be sure.

Yeah firstly it wasn't me! Secondly the limit was 30 in a built up area, and the speed registered was 50mph, apparently it was over the threshold for a FPN so they advised it would be dealt with in court. As it happens, the outcome from the court was quite favourable, in the sense that the charge was not much more than a FPN. I was simply advising that even a trip to court might not be too bad if he is properly represented, as my friend was in the above instance. Cheers
