Constitute 7% of the traffic and yet are involved in 45% of all fatalities. What should be done?
Interestingly accidents appeared to go up when they introduced speed limiters. Should they be scrapped?

Lorries can be a nightmare! I was an hour late for work one day last week because the A48, just out of Westbury on Severn was closed off due to two lorries colliding head on with each other (I assumed this as both the canopies and front ends were smashed) Love to know how the hell that happened!!!
Towman et al have gone greath lengths to explain the various lorry and truck problems that car drivers have issues with.
There are still a few things that annoy and are probably simply caused by the minority being c

Indicator flashing for a mere split second before pulling out. Why?! Give us a chance to react before occupying the lane!! If its not clear WAIT YOUR TURN!!! Apparently scientists have particle colliders that can measure particle flashes and analyse them in nanoseconds yet they have no device capable of measuring the shortness of a lorry drivers indicator when they are going for it...
And the hard shoulder thing - im sorry I know that these vehicles are affected by wind but that cannot explain why one lorry is goign stright on and the one behind or in front of it goes into the hard shoulder - selective wind?!
Finally the overtaking thing - Why in GODS NAME must you overtake when you can see that there is a blindingly obvious huge whacking great big hill coming up!? I followed one on the A38 the other day to Plymouth, he indicated to pull out at the bottom of Rattery hill stayed level with the other lorry while piling up a queue behind then pulled back in BEHIND!!!! the existing lorry once reached the crest of the hill, by which time loads and loads of traffic had built up.
Grrrr.

Is one truck going 0.1 mph faster than another truck really going to get them to your destination that much quicker?
If I wish to travel at a particular speed (in Talivan country, say) and slowly approach a vehicle going a very small fraction slower I slow down and match the speed keeping a decent distance. What is wrong with that. I don't take 3 miles to crawl past it. It's well dodgy.

Some months ago on a flat section of motorway, I was caught behind truck B overtaking truck A (that took a while). After that finished, around 30 seconds when I was parallel with truck A, it’s right indicator came on. Sure enough, truck A pulled out after I passed, much to the frustration of the following traffic. There were to large dots side by side when I checked my rear view 1 minute later
Had an early start last Friday..due in Sidcup at 07:30 so left home (Derbyshire) at around 04:00.Got to the 40mph road works on the M1 near Leicester.I then had a 40 tonner sat 1foot from my rear bumper flashing his lights for about 2 miles of this Specs guarded stretch.I don't want any more points so kept to the posted limit.Why didn't he just go past in one of the other lanes .Richard Head I think his name was..
Normally when I commute from Reading to London on the M4 there's stationary traffic between jc10 - jc8/9. I've never managed to work out what causes it.
Until now, during the summer holidays when the traffic is lighter.
Now the reason is clear. There's a very shallow incline for around 2 miles. And every morning we have racing elephants forcing all the cars in to one lane. Bringing the road to a standstill.
Mind you I also blame the under-accelerators who fail to pass at an adequate speed!

I've often found that they do whatever they like on the road because they're several times bigger than a car. I was almost taken out by a lorry which suddenly decided to pull out of a layby on the A13 a few weeks ago. I was in the inside lane and had nowhere to go because there was someone overtaking me in the middle lane. Had to stand on the anchors pretty hard and all I got was a middle finger in response to my blast of the horn.
The w*nker wasn't even indicating, just pulled straight out.
A girl I know was actually punched in the chest by a lorry driver who hit her car then tried to drive off. He had no rear numberplate and no signwriting so she went after him, only to have him leap out of the cab, hurl a tirade of foul-mouthed abuse at her and then punch her in the chest, knocking her to the road in front of passing traffic when she asked for his insurance details.
The BiB refused to prosecute, despite witnesses because the witnesses said they didn't want to get involved and refused to give statements and the lorry driver told the BiB that this girl had shouted at him.

Once hacking over the Orwell bridge in my 16v Astra GTE c1996. ~110mph, 0500, clear road other than two trucks a fair distance from each other, ie far apart enough that one wasn't going to get past the other up that hill.
Guess what happened next?
Just barely managed not to run into the back of it, then followed it up to the crest of the bridge whilst it stayed the same distance from the other truck, then it pulled in behind. I swear he saw me "making progress" and decided he'd put a stop to it.
That day I decided that I should expect every lorry on the road to attempt to kill me. And since then, 1/4 million miles later, I've seen nothing to change my opinion.
