OOOOOhhhhh another bash the trucker thread - how novel.
As someone said, try it for a day.
Obviously we are not all angels, but you only notice the guy who screws up.
Most of us try to be "knights of the road", but it`s becoming more and more difficult. If it wasn`t for the VRNs that woul be shown, I`d stick a camcorder on my windscreen for the day. I`m sure you would be horrified at some of the stuff that happens to us.

Apart from the 'elephant racing' issue which is fairly commonplace, I have no problems or issues with truckers at all.
I have been known to come off at a junction, go around the roundabout and then re-join the carriageway on the same junction in order to overtake a pointless elephant race though

Having driven to the South of Spain and back over the last few weeks from Calais, we should take a leaf out of our continental cousins' book. Through parts of Bordeaux, lorries and other HGVs are banned from overtaking during certain hours. What this meant was that elephant racing didn't occur. Bravo to the Frenchies.
I know trials have taken place on the M5 that also involved cars towing trailers and caravans over here, but personally I think this should be a permanent fixture certainly at peak hours and on peak days. Easily instructed to drivers by the use of the dot matrix signs that have now sprung up everywhere.
My worst experience of elephant racing was 11 miles behind two trucks up the A42 from Birmingham up to Nottingham. Neither had the brain power to look in their mirrors to see what mayhem was behind...

I agree!! I think the A42 is one of the worst roads in the country for drivers not pulling left after overtaking - despite the total traffic level not being that high, it's such a slow dual carrigeway.
I also totally agree with the suggestion of restricting lorries from overtaking between certain hours, they are what cause the bunching that screws up the traffic flow. grr.

There's two sides to every story, try driving a lorry for a day or two and having to put up with all you arsehole car drivers on road.
I could give a list of your faults but life is too short.
Well, life is too short, but we're all wasting it on this forum anyway so give us some tips!
If all us dumb as f**k, not fit for the face of your earth, car drivers could do something to make your life easier (and taking the train is not an option, sorry ) what would it be? Come on, we're all

Mirrors on a truck are for doing their makeup or shaving.
They certainly never think before overtaking another truck at .001mph difference.
The number of times I have been the only car on a dual carriageway (A43) and a truck has pulled out on me to take 3 days to overtake... Grrrrr.

I`ve answered this one before, but can`t be arsed with the maths this time.
11 miles @ 56mph = about 11.5 minutes
11 miles @ 70mph = about 10 minutes
What did you intend to do with the whole 1.5 minutes you lost?

Without taking the unnecessarily aggressive attitude of the previous poster, here`s a few....
When we make wide turns, don`t drive up the inside.
Don`t sit right behind, we can`t see you.
Don`t get angry when we drive at 40mph - we didn`t set the limit.
Don`t pull in front of us when we do a slow approach to traffic lights etc - we are probably trying to avoid stopping.
Don`t assume we can stop on a sixpence.
Don`t sit in our blind spots (alongside the cab)
and finally.....
Don`t tar us all with the same brush!

Constitute 7% of the traffic and yet are involved in 45% of all fatalities.
What`s that old quote about lies, damned lies and statistics?
It would be interesting to know how many of the fatals were a result of the truckie screwing up and how many were the result of a car driver`s mistake.
Of course lorries are more likely to kill you - they are heavy!!
